Tony Hawk for California tourism

A Commercial a Day – Day 13: Tony Hawk for California tourism

I’m sure Tony was flattered to be asked to represent the state of California in a commercial promoting tourism. There’s nothing more quintessentially California than skateboarding, right? I’m sure the joy left him as soon as he read another script asking him to talk about “pop.”

Tony Hawk in commercial for California tourism

This commercial aired during the Oscars last night. It features other famous Californians like Clint Eastwood, a few olympians, and the Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger mispronouncing the word “California” in his signature style. Tony is barely in it, he’s not even skating, but stil has to wear a helmet. Who is the stunt rider, Burnquist?

  1. Is that Tony skating behind Tony?

The slogan should be California is for punks.

Having traded my native California for Nevada this commercial makes me miss the beach at Santa Monica, surfing, skateboarding, the fog rolling into San Francisco, the pine scented air in Carmel, and majestic Yosemite. No wonder it runs a couple times a day in Las Vegas!
