The return of Skateboarder after being dormant from the 60's! The cover even has a 60's vibe to it. That's Greg Weaver in a pool. 80 pages long and no mention of where they had been for 10 years. If you look at some online uploads of V1#4, they say 1975, but the masthead itself says 1965. There is an editorial on page 17 talking about the comeback of skateboarding, with a photo and all credit going to Frank Nasworthy and urethane wheels. There's an article and photos on dowhill, a 2 page debate about stif vs flexible boards, a "Going Vertical" photo feature with most riders a yard below the coping, a random assortment of freestyle photos, contest roundups, longboards, "photos from readers' (how did they get photos and mail from readers when they hadn't published an issue in 10 years? A: probably sent to parent publication Surfer and diverted to Skateboarder. ) and Who's Hot features with Bon Neishi, Torger Johnson, Chris Yandell, Bruce Logan, Tom Sims, Bruce's Walker, Glen Woodruff, and Greg Weaver.

I first went to Val Surf in July 1974, when it was next door to the liquor store on Whitsett & Riverside. I sold them my 9’4″ Morey Pope board with a John Beck design, because I was going into the Navy. Bad mistake – I should have had my parents keep it for me!
I learned to Surf at Redondo Beach.
BTW, the vintage shirt designs were awesome and I had about a half dozen of them when I went on deployment to the West Pacific. These days, they all seem like logos of the vendors. Bring back the great artwork! ! !
