Skate and Annoy: Daily

Woody Woodpecker Skateboarding, a lot.

So far this is only the second appearance of Woody Woodpecker on Skate and Annoy, but it’s a big one. It started how these things usually start, an innocent glance at an auction item or an old forgotten file saved on a hard drive. Instead of just a puzzle, this time we’ve got PVC figures, plastic fast food toys, alarm clocks, animation cells, skateboards, and a comic book.

Here’s a PVC figure I found at Robot Robot. Unfortunately the last 2 digits of that copyright on the bottom are illegible blobs.

I couldn’t find this guy in any Image searches, so I went straight to Professor Beach Party Attitude. He couldn’t quite place the time of this figure, but of course he already had it, and more. Beach Party Attitude says this is a Burger King Kids Club toy. He came with the launcher and a ramps seen below. Follow that link!

I found these 1999 Tac Bell toys via Fast Food Toy Reviews. 1999 seems about right for this EXTREME®™! collection of toys. You’ve got BMX, Jet skis, skateboarding, street luge, and sky surfing. Remember sky surfing?

Here’s “Skateboard Woody” as seen in various auctions. This appears to be the hot seller out the collection, usually going for around $20 or more, while the others are obtainable for $6-$8 each.

Checking back with Beach Party Attitude, of course there are more extensive pictures in this post. There was a day when I would have spent $20 on this, but not so much this decade. Instead I’ll poach from BPA. Josh said it was OK back in 2013, even if he doesn’t remember it… (Don’t tell.)

Fast Food Toy Reviews is also on Youtube.

This is Street luge Woody. He looks really uncomfortable .

It looks like this person lifted the Burger King skateboarding Woody and placed him on a very familiar looking surfboard with wheels. Can someone place this? Every skateboard toy collector has a handful skateboard figures that are actually surfboards with wheels. Putting wheels on a surfboard is in some way the ultimate homage.

Shifting gears, this 1987 Walter Lantz signed animation cell was up for auction on Invaluable in 2023. Walter passed away 8 years later in 1994. There’s no indication of what film, if any, this was actually from.

Here’s a talking alarm clock as seen at Japanimedia, where they do show. closeup of the copyright on the foot, but no date is given. They say he is about 8″ tall.

Now it’s time for some actual skateboards. On the left is the Woody Woodpecker Racing Taiki Premium from Watson Laminates, followed by a custom hand made longboard by AC Longboards. The last two are an Andy Roy guest model graphic from Bad Grease. You can still get these at time of publication, but Woody Woodpecker isn’t expected to enter the public domain for another 10 years, so get ’em while they last. There a couple other concept mockup and print-on-demand skateboards out there but I didn’t include them because that’s just noise.

And now it’s time for a comic book. It’s the Golden Comics Digest, #5 from September 1969. Woody appears on the cover, but unfortunately, there is no skateboarding in the interior pages. What a rip off. I know because I flipped through all 162, tiny, stinky smelling pages. This scan is misleading, this digest is only 4¾ inches wide and 6? inches tall. Did I mentions it’s extremely musty? I did. The Walter Lantz wiki has more info on this comic book if you’re inclined.

Last, and certainly least in my opinion. Check out this Woody Woodpecker cartoons titled Thrash For Cash which more aptly should have been titled Trash. It’s a 2002 episode of The New Woody Woodpecker Show where Woody coaches Splinter and Knothead for a skateboard contest. Like most reboots of classic cartoons, It’s a truly awful insult to the original.

BONUS! (Not really.) Woody Woodpecker branded party favors. These really craptacular items can of course be found at Beach Party Attitude, and literally nowhere else… er, uhm…. Circa 1981 made by a company called Imperial. The packing says Woody Woodpecker but the characters on theses extremely cheap (cereal toy cheap) skateboards are just random animals including a lion , a squirrel, a cat, some sort of bear that might be a raccoon, and possibly a dog.
