Screen printing is amazing

I’ve never heard Zarosh talk, so at first I thought the voiceover was actually him, but it isn’t. This video is the best. All instructional videos should be like this, even though it isn’t very instructional. Still, I gleaned a few things after watching it. Looks like Zarosh is usining the exact same exposure unit (AKA grow light) that Cold War has. Skateboards by Platypus, and voiceover by Birdo. Screen printing is amazing.

BCSA Call For Art!

The Benton County Skateboarding Alliance (BCSA) is hosting the 5th annual Art & Music Benefit to raise money for improvements to the Eric Scott McKinley Skate Park in Corvallis. We have over $13,500 of the $75,000 to $90,000 needed for the first phase—(a 3,000 sq ft skate bowl). Additional phases include: advanced street terrain, Eric Scott McKinley memorial, and improved family facilities (seating, BBQs, etc).

All media is accepted; Art must be ready to hang or display. The BCSA is inviting available local artists to help hang art and work the art show (arrangements must be made in advance). Artists that help with the show may get up to 60% of the proceeds from their art sales otherwise artists are asked donate at least 60% of their art sales to the skate park fund. Space may be limited so the BCSA may have to limit the number of pieces accepted. Thank you for your interest in this event.

The show is planned for June 02, 2012 at the Corvallis Elks Lodge.

The deadline for art submissions is May 12, 2012.

For more information, contact the BCSA: bcskateboardingalliance@gmail.com

I threaten to go to this every year, but they won’t sign my contract rider. Like Van Halen, I require certain amenities in green room… Heads up to Arcweld. Do your research on the interwebs™ and look up the band Arcwelder.

Brooklyn Street Benefit Redux

What a difference a day makes; Some more information, a new flyer, and now the beer is free.

This Brooklyn Benefit will be to help fund a new miniramp section behind the back 4ft pocket to the sidewalk in the asphalt section. We want to try and raise $3,000, and although it will take a few of these fundraisers, donating (suggested) $8 will help BSSS get their faster! Please remember 21+, none of us want to be the asshole that has to turn you away.

Brooklyn Street Skate Spot is now going to be under Skaters for Portland Skateparks non-profit status which will make it easier for funding and accepting other donations!

Brooklyn Street Benefit

Brooklyn Street Skate Spot Benefit on February 18th at Commonwealth, just about a week shy of Commonwealth’s 1 year anniversary. The BSSS benefit is from 7-10, with alleged bands (who?) raffles, food and beer. OK, I’m not going to argue. Flyer and video from Commonwealth’s grand opening after the jump.

Burnside: It’s for the kids, man.

Like the flyer says, bring your kids to Burnside next week(!) for lessons in skateboarding and etiquette (See potty mouth prevention.) What about a litter seminar? A little birdy told me Burnside finally has 501(c)(3) status.

There are popsicle sticks and there are…

There are popsicle sticks and there are more popsicle stick sticks. Check out this longboard made from laminates of actual popsicle sticks. I was a little bit disappointed to learn that these were craft and hobby store popsicle sticks and not from recycled frozen sweets. I think the sugar water stains would have been a nice touch, although once lacquered, the bard does have a nice bamboo lok to it. Check it out on Instructables.

Antifornia

Are you sick of fly by night DIY spots? Not me. Check out this short documentary on Antifornia in the UK by Sean Pointing. Antifornia is pretty much a one man show by an interesting character named Dave Dixon, seemingly antisocial but easy going and friendly at the same time. It takes all types tomake the skating world interesting. In fact, that’s your homework assignment for the month. Go skate with someone you don’t like and and make a point of having fun. And I mean skate with them, not just at the same time and place as them. Meanwhile, watch Antifornia after the break.
