Help Yourself, Help Haiti

haiti

From Control Manufacturing in Canada:

St-Nicolas, Qc January 18th 2010 –In an attempt to come to the aid of the people who are suffering in Haiti in the aftermath of a violent earthquake that brought death and destruction to the country last week we have decided to release a special edition skateboard. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these boards will go to the people of Haiti via the Canadian Red Cross – Quebec division, c/o Fabienne Laisné, 6, Place du Commerce, Verdun (Quebec) H3E 1P4. This board will go on sale across Canada within the next 2 weeks. This board is made out of 100% hardrock Canadian maple at the Control Manufacture in St-Nicolas Qc Canada. The project however is from our sales team. We will use all the contacts we have built over the last 15 years to reach out to all shops, brands and skaters accross Europe, Canada, USA and South America that currently buy boards from us.

Not a penny will be kept of the proceeds, everything we make is going to Haiti.

When I saw the desperation in Haiti I didn’t know what to do to help… finally I decided to help the only way I knew how: selling skateboards” said Dan Saindon, Sales Manager at Control MFG.

“We are very excited to be part of this project and we will do all we can to make this a success” added Fabienne Laisné from the Red Cross.

Control MFG is a leader in the skateboarding manufacturing business. We are specialized in high end skateboards and have been in operation since 1995. We will post a complete list of shops carrying the boards in the next few weeks.

The Canadian Red Cross Society is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the situation of the most vulnerable in Canada and throughout the world.

We also encorage you to make a direct donation to the Red Cross. Here is the toll free number: (800) 363-7305

Real is also putting out a board due out soon called Haiti REALief. There is info about it on the Deluxe site.

  2. Dandiego says:

I’m giving over 20$ per board sold which is 100% of the money made. I pay my cost and give all the rest. I didn’t put the logo since this is not for advertising but rather to help the people over there. Still had to put the address on the press release so people knew where to get them.

  3. kilwag says:

Hey, I would have thought it admirable even with a logo on the board. The fact that you are giving all the proceeds to the relief effort is excellent. If you sold them direct to the public you could give even more. Will there be any shops in the US that carry them?

  4. Dandiego says:

Yeah I got a bunch of shops ordering some right now. I might sell on a non-profit online store too… I’ll update all that shortly. Trying to move quickly so things are 100% set up

  5. ssk says:

Cool idea. Should definitely make available to buy online ASAP. Could be a simple paypal donation link with a minimum but no maximum.

  6. Drunk Andy says:

The United States is the most generous nation to exist in the history of the planet.

  7. Dandiego says:

USA are generous no doubt… now the only problem is making sure the money gets into the hands of the right people in Haiti. Choosing who you give your money to is key.

  8. Larry says:

the graphic should have been of a cab driver.

  9. Prickly Pete says:

I wanted to name my high school era punk band, Liberated Hatians on Parade, but it was voted down.

  11. ubergeek says:

Are these things hand screened? If so, I’ll buy a few — if they aren’t could we lobby for hand screened? I fly to where-ever beween 2/1-2/4 and drag some paint across a screen if it would help.

    Best,
    Mike
