Crappy skateboard of the month

In this edition we have some Malone skateboards. Malone was a brand that produced crappy skateboards in the 80s, but I really don’t know much about it, besides the fact that they were pretty crappy and my brother had one.  I was riding a Rusher Sports  ‘California Pro’ (even worse than a Pro 90) at that time and my brother bought a ‘Malone’ from this sports store. I have never seen these decks back untill now on eBay. Funny thing, I remember my brother ( he was 10 or 11 at that time) described his boards as ‘semi-pro’, haha, but I guess he had a point there, since they were actually better than the ‘Turbo 2’ ones. More models after the jump.

This deck is actually a bootleg, since they used a design of the band ‘The Screamers’. Kilwag said he thought he remembered a Sims deck with this graphic, but I can’t find it anywhere. He must be suffering from dementia.

The sticker says’ ‘Malone concave’:

The wheels were pretty soft, like the ones on the Rusher Sports completes:

Another deck I found on eBay:

And the ‘semi-pro’ deck my brother had, also found this one on eBay:

  1. Yes ! I share the same kind of dementia – I have seen this face before – IMO art (?) inspired by a Grant Brittain photo of young Natas Kaupas.

  2. Nice rip-off of the Screamers(70’s L.A. punk band.)face logo. I wanna say the Screamers logo was used on an 80’s 1-800-jokes commercial. Anyways listen to the Screamers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. G. Panter? That was the guy’s name who did Pee Wee’s playhouse art design, also did that Screamers face logo on the board way up above, maybe he did this? I believe Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo did the Pee Wee intro music, a lot of weirdo punk shit going on in Pee Wee’s playhouse.

Danny elfman of oingo bingo did pee Pee’s Muzak

    2. Yeah, Gary Panter did the Screamers logo and was also one of the Pee Wee’s Playhouse art team. Motherbaugh and Elfman both did music for the show, though Elfman composed the movie theme. The only place I’ve seen Pee Wee’s Playhouse theme composer credited is to Mark Mothersbaugh, but that’s at Muppet Wiki so who knows if it’s accurate.

Isn’t Kilwag referring to the Sims ‘Screamer’ team deck?

    1. I’ve mentioned it elsewhere, probably an Ebay Watch, but I thought I remembered a graphic that was closer to this Screamers band logo rip off than the traditional Sims Screamer board, but it’s obvious that Bernie took inspiration from punk/new wave graphics.

  6. A board with a name like “Rad Face” deserves it’s on post!

I wanted a brand x for christmas 1987 but looked under the tree to find a malone deck I wasnt happy at the time but made the best of it . I rode that deck till it snapped summer of 88 and used the trucks and wheels for an team losi ooze deck till I got a vision for christmas 88 , and I found a malone deck like the one I had in 88 and cruising on it , the decks were not that great but got me by .
