Hoop daydreams

Check out this public art installation in Munich, Germany. It’s a regulation size basketball court with a mogul field surface and a light saber sticking out of center court. It’s from the firm Inges Idee it’s called 3D2. Looks like it would fun to roll around on.

Nice! Equally impressive is the court’s surroundings, and absence of a fence.Creates a good approach for riding Inge’s hills.

my guess is that it’s probably made of a medium-soft rubber composite, like the stuff they use on playgrounds sometimes

  3. Cool warping of the game. I’d like to see a basketball game on a court where the hoops moved around to different places on the perimeter and changed heights during the game. Or two games happening on intersecting perpendicular courts. Of course, I’m not a basketball player.

  4. This looks like what Purkiss-Rose would do if you asked them for a basketball court.

  5. “The court consists of a soft orange-red tartan covering and two normed baskets and seems to be forced over the grid of the lamps that have been set up. The playable
court has been “morphed” as in a 3D program on a computer and looks like the grounds of a rollercoaster, with heights and depths and calm and dynamic zones. The resulting paradox, which moves between a normative set of rules and pleasurable, anarchic change, requires creative engagement for its use.”

(Side note: Why do explanations of “art” always sound so retarded?)

Still sounds skateable to me. If you want it bad enough, you find a way.
