Bring a note from your mom or your wife

The Turf may be filled in, but the momentum is not dead. The same station that covered the digging out effort aired an editorial (Ted’s Take) coming down on WDOT bureaucracy. There’s an official web site for the voce of saving the Turf, appropriately named Save the Turf. The Mayor of Greenfield, (It’s technically not Milwaukee, I always forget that.) seems to be cautiously in the corner of the effort. Wisconsin’s DOT seems to be passing the buck. Their stance is that they need the land as a staging area until the off ramp is finished, at which point the land is scheduled to be given to the city of Greenfield. So theoretically, if they cover it with enough rubble so it doesn’t get further damaged, when the project is over they could dig it out again and repair it. Ted’s Take after the jump, or head on over to Save the Turf.

  1. What…? You can’t say “Sack up” on the nightly news?

  2. Good editorial. It is funny that skaters seem to have some political power at this time. Cover it back up, build the highway and uncover it, burnside style.

  3. man nice that you mil. guys have the press on yr side. i’d petition the hell out of the mayor and get the turf designated as a future public skatepark for after the staging if not before then raise public donations to bring it up to par as an outdoor skatepark , drainage etc. hopefully even enough to set up the area surrounding the bowls as skateable . would be a huge boon to the community as well as possible lifer and midlife crisiser tourism destination.. i mean damn extra oldschool skatepark and a possible pabst or schlitz brewery tour..c’mon whats not to dig there???

p.s. i think the term Ted was searching for is “rebate”… hope you millwakee folks get one.
