Skate Utah – Rose Park

Skate Utah has a pretty cool video shot at Rose Park. We’ve all seen the camera mounted under the skateboard shot before, usually in commercials, but this time it’s an extended shot complete with heel flip – I think, I get confused scrubbing the footage back and forth. The whole thing was done without expensive equipment actually, it was just one of those cheap helmet cams mounted under the skateboard. It’s an effect that would be really easy to overuse, but it’s still interesting.

What about the miniramp ban in Salt Lake? Brian Baade has an update after the jump.

Also, a few of us had a meeting with the Salt Lake County Environmental Health Dept people last week, they wanted some input about the new wording for the ramp code ban thing they have going on here. Determined the best thing to do is just omit the clause and have it default to same noise regulations as everything else but figured some of the skater haters out there wouldn’t be happy with that. Alternate is just to reword it with same noise curfew as everything else, quiet time from 10pm – 7 am and must be in compliance with db levels for the local environment. Pretty much same difference but they can look in the ordinance and actually see that those evil “sporting ramps” are included.

Either way as of now it’s still not being enforced (other than the 10pm-7am hours) and due to the slow governmental process nothing will probably be done thru August. They need to give the anti’s an equal input session then gets presented to board then new draft is proposed then public notice then public hearings then eventually a new vote.
On the positive side, they said there hasn’t been any issues from the few cement spots going in. In fact they seemed to encourage cement over wood, at least as far as from noise amplification. So there’s something for the kids, instead of a 3 foot mini, build a 3 foot bowl then when it comes time to sell the house do a little paint job, a bit of landscaping and presto a scenic little koi pond that adds to the value of the house. Until of course it doesn’t get used as such, sits empty then kids hop the fence to skate and the whole happy circle starts again.

A couple of new parks are supposedly about to break ground here soon, still no northwest but getting better. Slowly
