Limozine #3

80’s Zine Archives: Limozine #3

Published in 1988, Limozine #3 comes to us from the Boston area. There are two mailing addresses, one in East Boston and one in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was put out by the three man team of Jamie Cumming, Sebastian Nichols and Matt Cumming, as listed in the masthead. It’s a fat 24 half letter sized pages. The photos are legible but the toner saturation (Sheesh – listen to this a-hole) is really low. My physical copy is really faint. It actually looks a lot better after being scanned and manipulated slightly. The layout consists of mostly large photos with typewritten captions. Very nice actually. Simple and clean. I featured a Limozine related link back in November of last year. SnA is thanked on the liner notes and I still have the letter I got from the Limozine staff, unsigned so I don’t know who I was corresponding with. I probably got the address from a zine listing in Contort.

Featured Skaters (In order of appearance) Dan Estabrook, Dexter, Pete Verdoe, Bill, Jamie Ferguson, Sebastian Nichols, Bill Bennet, Andy Smith, Chris Robinson’s friend, Aaron. Unanmed locals.

Spots: Devotion Banks, Upland, Cambridge pool, Z.T. ramp

Honorable Mentions: Thanked on the contents: Skate and Annoy, Skate & Mate, Rip the Lip, Andre, fisheyes, Pro Designed.

  1. Hey Skate and Annoy people,
Thanks for including my zine here. It’s been so many years I can’t even remember how many copies we sent out to people. For the record, the Limozine you mention here is ours and this link has a picture of the cover for issue #3:

But that flickr link is the phony ripoff version of Limozine (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rob_react/1820101656/).

Those dudes were like our arch rivals in the Boston skate scene. Actually, we knew all those guys, but they “only skated street” while our posse “skated street and vert”. We pretty much skated with them all the time, but vibed them too. They talked a lot of shit about our crew as well.

I’m not kidding though, we came out with Limozine first and they copied our zine’s name. Goofy skatezine drama – the only thing more pathetic than me remembering this would be to say that I actually gave a shit now, I’m almost 40!

About that letter, I would guess that I sent it to you. I was good friends with Dan from Contort, maybe that’s where I got your address? I can’t remember anymore.

Anyway, the 80’s east coast skate scene was a blast. Thanks for posting all this zine info. Glad you liked Limozine and sorry about the toner saturation!
    🙂

  2. Drama!! I can’t believe someone poached your name and you knew them! It’s kind of funny if it was it a prank. Was it? There’s a twerp on YouTube using SkateAndAnnoy as user name. I want to pummel him even though he’s only 13.
