Four wheels? Pbbffft! Two Wheels? Pshaw! You only need one!
Some college kids may have invented it first, but Sony holds the patent, and I’m sure Segway might feel otherwise. That’s not stopping more people from making their own versions. The slickest by far seems to be the one wheeled version. Video, links and pics after the jump.
One Wheeler, self balancing
Ben Smither from Norwich England built this one wheeler for about $600. He’s got a web site where he calls it a Balancing One-Wheeled Scooter. No handle huh? That’s closer to a skateboard. It looks sturdy and rideable, a lot like the one these kids built on an actual skateboard deck a while back. [Source: Metro]
Skatanova, a self-balancing skateboard
Skatanova looks a little ghetto in comparison, seeing as the wood platform is sketchy and the other parts obviously include cordless drills. Skatanova is a lot more than a step above other drill-powered skateboards. It’s actually an advanced project that is well documented. It’s got speed and direction controls built into foot switches. There’s also a video on the web site.
Now you can take your bongo-board on the road!
