GVK #54: X-Mas footage 2009

Some X-Mas Footage for all. It would have been longer and better except I have to finish my last-minute Christmas shopping. If you don’t like it, file a complaint with the editor-in-chief of Skate and Annoy. Merry Christmas from the Staff at GVK.

(Editor’s note: I’m filing my own complaint. I’m having a hard time finding the “X-mas” in this X-mas footage! – K.ed)

GVK #53: Halloween at Burnside 2009

000-gvk-52

So I did not have a lot of time to shoot footage for Halloween plus you are always so distracted by the Show. I did see a lot of good stuff that did not make it to the camera. The weather was great, awesome turn out. There is a sort of weird good family vibe at that Burnside Banks. I feel like if my kid got lost people would try to help him feel okay and get him help. Just to set the mode when I pulled up Red had the music so loud it almost hurt you ears and the song was the song from the bar scene in star wars where Luke and OB-1 meet Han Solo. Who would of thought that could hurt your ears. If you didn’t make you missed it. – Skate Off, Grover.

P.S. Some of you may have seen this already, I put this together last week and got tired of waiting for Kilwag to get his site running again – See this video.

GVK #50: The Mayor of Skatetown

000-gvk-50

I went to my hometown in Michigan on July10th and hooked up with my old friend, David Scot Campbell. He is by far the biggest skate influence in my life. In Michigan in 1986 he was doing stuff you would see in California skate magazines with little or no live example. He has weathered all of skateboarding’s highs and lows riding through the whole mess, and I mean from the beginning. Dave enjoyed a little notoriety at the end of the vert era when he was picked up by Santa Cruz skateboards. His talents are showcased in the video “Troops of Tomorrow”. Even though vert skating died, Dave kept skating underground because there was no upper ground. He continues to ride to this day and will ride until it’s physically impossible. I’m proud to have him as a life-long team member of Cold War Skateboards.

GVK#49

I almost did not make this on my son has improved so much over the course of 6 months this is almost hard to watch if you saw him skate yesterday. I’m sure some people will enjoy this Grandmothers and older relatives and maybe Wes. It chronicles our trip to So Cal in the fall of (08). At the time I had to lie to get jack in to all the skate parks as the minimum age was 6 and he was 4. Enjoy? – DADDY OUT.

Coos Bay Oregon skatepark opens

The review of Mingus Park, also known as Coos Bay, is deep and smooth with fast coping. The street area has yet to be developed. When you pull up, it looks like a 1950’s flying saucer. The pool is deep and fast. The shallow end is a hero’s drop in. The deep end is fun and easy to ride. This is the link between Reedsport and Port Orford. You can now skate yourself silly on the coast hitting a park every half hour. There were about a hundred people skating on Saturday, the day after it officially opened. I would like to thank the Mayor for his hand-written invitation to Mingus Park. Hope to see him next time I drive through. P.S. Surrounding the park are baseball fields and tennis courts; none of them used.

Eight great iPhotos after the jump. Thanks to EPM for the gorgeous shot of yours truly. He’s got some more shots of Matt Kline killing it.

GVK #48: Burnside Nontest Benefit

Yo, loyal viewers. Here is just the opposite of the big pool party (Protec) in California, The second Burnside non-test. No stars, no free guitars, just local skate studs and mall graders. This thing really felt like some sort of family reunion. Even though I do not ride there that much anymore, people are always welcoming. I was only there for about a half hour so I am sure I missed a ton of good footage, but here is what I captured.

P.S. What is Q’s secret for such a strong looking body?

GVK #46 - Spring Broken 2009

I can’t believe anyone still wants to see this besides me and my friends. I had the day off so I decided to finish the 1st of the Spring Break (09) series. It may be the last also. There are a lot of parks and riders in here, I bet you cant name them all. Consider it a GVK challenge. That ought to boost my internet rating. Winner gets a personal dinner with the editor clothing optional! – GVK Adios.

GVK # 45: Bryce Kanights Interview

So am I legit now. I interviewed a piece of skateboard history and future. Whether you know it or not, Bryce Kanights has touched your skateboard life in some way, be it reading, riding or looking at a magazine for the photos. Bryce was there for most of the boom of vert and has been in it since; when you were taking your snowboarding break he was skating and still involved with Thrasher. If you mention the most random skater he has a story. Very few people can make a living off this industry – the photo side anyway – but he has perfected his craft and shoots all the skate stars from Duane Peters to Brent Atchley. So here is my interview of Mr. Bryce Kanights. A brief glimpse into his stuff.

P.S. Eat it if you do not like the audio. Who can afford a microphone in this economy? – G.V.K. OFF
