welcome on board sculpture

Didn’t you read the artist’s statement?!

Welcome On Board is for skateboarders, not BMX, not graffiti.

Public Sculpture by Guillaume Ségur who describes the project:

When I consider skateboarding in terms of the production of forms or spaces, it is the Möbius strip that comes to mind. Looping, twisting, inversion and continuous motion are all figures performed by the skater in the space surrounding him. The form is also of particular interest because it has often been utilised in public sculpture projects. It is one of the stereotypes of 1970s public sculpture. In this particular context, the work acts as a pattern, code, a recognisable symbol.

  1. Is what you really learn in art school is the ability to BS like that?

School is an introduction. It takes years to polish these skills

  2. What city is this in? Why aren’t some awesome photos surfacing?

  3. if it’s for skateboarders, why is there no easy way to get onto the curved surface with what looks like coping. Seems like a half baked idea to me… make some art and as an afterthought say its for skating,

    its called an “ollie,” baldy.

its a brand-new maneuver that seems to be gaining some popularity.

  5. Looks like it’s part of a project called Madrid Abierto so I’ll guess Madrid, Spain?

  6. If you want to find out what would happen to you if you rode a Moebius strip in a vehicle and entered another dimension, then check out my sci-fi mystery novel: “TIME TRIP ON A MOEBIUS STRIP,” which was recently published…If you go to my blog at: http://moebiustripper.blogspot.com you will see many Moebius strips made into furniture, jewelry, and sculptures, as well as a sample page from my sci-fi novel.

  7. Reminds me of a Mellow Cat cartoon from, I dunno, ’78? maybe which was something to do with a mobius ramp. Old age does strange things to your memory, I can’t remember what i’m supposed to be doing at work today but I can picture a frame of a cartoon that I haven’t seen for 30 years…

  8. Ollie? Damn, and I’ve been calling it a “gefland” all this time.

No wonder those horrible skaters spray painted “kook” on me.

  9. Right. Nothing says “made for skateboarding” like transition with a one foot gap you have to ollie up.

  10. RI’m, cust calling B.S. on the artist. I think he made up his inspiration after he designed that thing.

not everything is a quarterpipe. skate it as a ledge/manny pad/gap-bottomed bank.

i see about 10 different lines to try on that thing.

im calling bs on baldy. that thing looks fun as fuck.

ssk… you’re an idiot, that project is his own and not the result of an art school..

D richard Lewis… why the self promotion nobody wants it.

this could certainly be fun if you had the right skill level.
