SOTW 1-28-08: Devil Machine
These week’s Shot of the Week is Damien’s aptly titled 2006 picture of a Corvallis Oregon pool about to bite the dust. Check it out.
SOTW 11-26-07: Heineken Pool

Light, Love & Death
Cesinha Chaves is passionate about pool skating. You may have seen some of the Cexa Podcasts, and now he’s got a DVD coming out in December called Light, Love & Death. I thought the title was just touchy-feely nonsense until my brain clicked on and I saw the picture of the light, love seat, and death box. At first I thought this was a Brazillian pool skating documentary, but I think it just has some Brazillian guys in it. And of course, you can’t make a pool video with out Slaba. There’s also some Killing Joke in the soundtrack. Hooray! You can view a higher quality 19MB file or watch it on YouTube after the jump. No info on where you can buy it, but I did find this on Brasil Skate. Update: Now available for sale internationally.
SOTW: 11-19-07 – Arizona pool party
This weeks shot is from an Arizona pool party that Old Man Army recently threw, complete with live honky tonk on the deck. Russell proves you can rock and roll to honky tonk. You can see it larger over at the Shot of the Week.
Spot fetish
The Royal Hawaiian Pool Service has a page documenting the Poi Bowl that is right up our obsessive compulsive alley. It’s a famous pool that aside from being skated, also had the honor of appearing in several episodes of Hawaii Five-O. RHPS has some pics from magazine appearances, a skateboard graphic tribute, and a little video footage from TV as well.
Mistubishi and Pool Skating
The shows I watch must fall out of the targeted demographic because I’ve had people tell me about this commercial but I can’t seem to catch it on the air. Instead I have to resort to pulling it off the web. Misubishi, the company that brought you the Japanese Zero, now wants to help you go on a kamikaze pool mission by driving you there and blasting your MP3’s once you get to the secret spot. Thanks to John Aguilar and Paige for the tip off.
The Best Thing to Happen to Pier Park…
…has been Glenhaven. It has been amazing how empty Pier has been. Too many times in the last week I have been in on my own private session, praying that I don’t get seriously hurt in the 11.5″ abyss. I can only imagine the wrath of the local kids as they heckle my bloody carcass. Trying to talk them into hauling said carcass out of there wouldn’t be too fun either. I can’t skate Pier every day, especially not by myself. It simply hurts too much. I am no Mark Conahan. I wish I was, but I am not. I need to take a couple of days off between sessions at Pier, and Glenhaven has become a perfect filler. The mini bowl is great for somebody like me (old, fat and not very skilled) as it reminds me of my Masonite mini-ramp youth. The hip in the center is pure butter. The pool is gnarl, but less gnarl than Donald. There are always great sessions full of kids who are tearing that thing to little pieces. It’s great to see kids half my age able to appreciate (and destroy) pools. I thought that tranny was dead, right? Dave Viera came…
Cell Phone action
This Royce Nelson cell phone photo by Tony Farmer comes to us courtesy of Davoud at Concussion Magazine. A couple years ago I got the idea to do a print zine made entirely of cell phone photos. Like many things on my plate, I haven’t gotten around to it. I’m guessing someone else has done it by now. If not, I am immediately accepting submissions for Does/Does Not Cause Cancer.
Corvallis Pool
This pool was up and running for just about forever and a day. There were rumors of $200 tickets being given out but that was likely just subterfuge as nobody seemed to actually know anyone personally who had gotten a ticket. The pool was in a motel that was being torn down. Seems like that was going around this summer. In any case, there are action photos to be seen as well. I’m trying a different approach to the thumbnails for the sake of uniformity and saving a little production time. Sometimes they are close to full frames of the enlarged versions, sometimes they just highlight interesting parts. Please let me know in the comments how you think it works out. Check it out.
