Hi Definition Extreme Bling
I don’t know anything about your 1080p vs. your 1080i. I’m still waiting for flat screen TV’s of any technology to reach prices affordable for your average joe. In any case, LG must be one of the sponsors of the X-Games or the Dew Tour or something, and they are showcasing footage from said event on their 24k gold plated 71 inch plasma display. At $132,000, only Tony Hawk or Bam can actually afford it. Ridiculous, as seen on Aving.net via Gizmodo.com.
Levis wants you to skate. FedEx, not so much.
FedEx, Gatorade Propel, and Levis Dockers all have commercials currently airing using skateboards. They range from pretty good to average. Decode my cryptic title with video links and commentary after the jump.
Look Who We’re Fleecing Now
Skateboard Champions. Flying is in style. Fun Colors and designs that let your kids show off their own personal look (as long as someone else has already pre-manufactured it.) That kid looks like a sassy Ryan Sheckler, and the little girl holding the skateboard has a head start on a beer gut.
Powell clothing available at. . . . Nordstroms????
I quote from the press release: “In the 80’s there was no bigger skateboard company than Powell Peralta. . . . One of the key factors to Powell’s dominance as a skateboard powerhouse were the ground-breaking graphics. Using extremely dark and detailed hand drawn image of skulls, snakes and dragons, PP was the first skate/street company to throw such taboo images into the mainstream. . . . Today designer Danny Drake has teamed up with George Powell to reissue a collection of 8 of the most memorable graphics in skate history on updated bodies. These PP items are an extremely limited edition and are only available in “The Rail” at Nordstom”.
Sex and Skateboards Sell Hard Drives
Maxtor makes hard drives. Kids these days with their Myspaces and digital cameras and the pirate MP3s need a place to store all their Interweb desktops. Maxtor thinks they can sell them a networked storage drive. They’ve created a web site with a fake family to show off the product. The daughter’s name is Tirin, and she has a dream (other than a real name) and that is to make her own skateboarding website…” Hey Tirin, as this site will prove, any jackass can download Wordpress and make one for free. Duh. I swear I’ll make a real skateboarding post soon.
Tobacco is Wacko!
If there’s anything that says teenager, it’s a skateboard right? As part of the settlements levied against the tobacco industry they have been forced to spend money to prevent teens from using tabacco. They are all prettty half-hearted efforts like this advert. They act like it’s something that just isn’t good for you only if you are a teenager, as if everything is Ok once you turn 18. It’s actually a pretty cool illustration. Keep reading to see this ad from 2003 in a larger size.
Honda Says: Skateboards are for Hippies
A couple of years back Honda had an ad compaign for their low emissions and fuel efficient cars. I think it predates the Hybrid Civics actually. Somewhere I have the pages which might have a date. Right now all I can find is the scans which have a creation date of 4-28-00.
