Two Bands, Two Videos
The first is From a band called the Explosion who has the msfortune of being signed to Capitol Records, a company that still just doesn’t fucking get it. For some reason they feel like it’s in the best interest of the band to not allow embedding. Good luck with that one boys, maybe you’ll be one of the few that makes it. So check out the video for Here I Am exclusively on YouTube. After the jump, there’s a video for a Les Savy Five tune called Let’s Get Out Of Here. It’s basically a concept we’ve seen before, video of a skateboarder projected from a moving vehicle. – Thanks to Ryan Mann and Damien C for the tip.
Movie magic
Check out some behind the scenes footage of Chris Evans on the set of Scott Pilgrim filming a skateboard stunt using a harness to nail a 50-50 on a rail. I know it’s a weak post, but I’ve liked Michael Cera since Arrested Development. Check it out. And since it’s filler, I’m not stopping there. After the jump you can watch a reporter making demonstrating a skatepark etiquette fail. – Thanks to Eric Cherry and John Egertson for the tip.
Jay Meerkats
The Telegraph (UK) “reports” that the new Maverick Meerkats calendar is available. I hate it when web sites try to protect their scans (of other people’s images) with a bunch of overlayed divs designed to keep you from downloading the image. Come back here in a year and I’ll probably be doing the same thing. Isn’t there a there a Cure album called Meerkats? I like that little raccoon/weasel doing the rock and roll. He reminds me of Bone Man. – Thanks to Anders Knudsen for the tip.
GQ Italia
Buddy Carr Skateboards are featured in the October issue of Italian GQ. I have to say I really like the design aesthetic over there, which Buddy art directs and Antonio Carusone executes. – Thanks to Michael Brooke for the tip.
Carhartt and Phil Zwijsen
In the US, Carhartt means overalls and heavy work jackets. For some reason in Europe it menas skateboarding. Here’s a commercial featuring Carhatt team rider Phil Zwijsen who hails from Antwerp, belgium but has been seen stateside as well. – Thanks to Ryan Mann for the tip.
Disney is shreddin’ up California
This is a recent postcard my son got from his grandmother. By the looks of that Cooper style hockey helmet that Mickey Mouse is wearing it could have been from the 70’s but Donald is sporting a bicycle-style helmet and then there is the web address printed on the back. Somebody call the Department of Child Services, Donald’s nephews aren’t wearing helmets! Mickey is rockin’ som e of those new kingpin-less trucks. In Bizarro World there’s some sort of Californian American anti-defimation league that is upset by the stereotype this postcard perpetuates.
Ament benefactor
Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament fully funded a small skatepark in his childhood home town of Big Sandy, Montana. His heart’s even bigger than his wallet. 40k is a lot to spend just to have a place to skate when you visit your p’s. Check out the Great Falls Tribune for the details, and then head on over to Earth Patrol Media to check out some photos of Jeff enjoying some Canadian maple mid-air. – Thanks to Ashley Mott for the tip.
Skateboard, Uh ah ah.
Die Skateboard-Welle war schon eine Weile in Deutschland angekommen, als man dem Thema einen deutschen Song gab. In the 70’s there was a German teeny bopper who had some sort of hit song called Skateboard, Uh ah ah. At some point recently he tried to mount a comeback which involved rereleasing the song with new, updated mixes. There’s not much info out there that’s easy to find on this Benny character. For example, iTunes seems to have him confused with a Mexican perfomer of the same name. – Thanks to Spencer Montgomery for the tip. [Source: Skate in the Ramp]
Weezer, Jackass and Salba
I swear Salba must have joined a union or something. It’s like you can’t film a music video with skateboarding unless it features Steve Alba in a pool. Jackass 3 opens today I think. – Thanks to Matt Beasley for the tip.
Wally Inouye on Callin on Colin Today
He’s one of the more admired figures in the history professional skateboarding who has been features countless times in magazines. In fact he’s still being featured in the skate mags. You can walk down the toy aisle and see his picture on the Del Mar Pool replica. A couple years ago he had a Shot of the Week here on S&A ( I’m sure his biggest honor to date…) The great thing is, you can still skate with this guy if you want to . I took this poorly exposed shot of him last year at the Dew Tour. He was sitting behind me and I happened to turn around when the arena sign was lit up with “Skate Vert.” It sounds like a command, but it’s actually just the event that was happening at the moment. Hear Tom ‘Wally” Inoye interviewed live at 2pm Pacific on Callin’ on Colin. If you miss it you can download the show when they archive it.
