6 Wheels, 3 Aces, 2 Installments.

About nine years ago I discovered (online) a magnificent plastic 6-wheeled skateboard, and the since then I have been looking to add this exquisite wacky board to my collection of oddities. I even have an Ebay alert set up for it, but it’s never returned any positives. As is the case for a lot of barely documented skateboard ephemera, Skate and Annoy is sometimes one of the few results that come up. Such was the case for Don Brown (Yes, that Don Brown) who recently acquired his own Cami Tres Assi and tried to find out more about it. After reading his comment I reached out to him and he obliged to send us some photos… and here we are. Don got his from a friend in Italy. We know nothing more than we originally did, except for the fact the wheels are quite brittle and prone to breaking. Enjoy!

Dutch Street Suckers

Check out this early 80’s “Street Sucker” from the Netherlands. The graphic and two-tone wheels look like something distinctly American, although there is no visible company name to be found. – Thanks to Michiel Walrave for the pic.

Rolling Russian Style

Impulse buys, some are good, but this one? VERY NICE!!! I bought his Soviet era skateboard from a seller in the Ukraine. Sure, I paid more in shipping than I did for the actual item but I couldn’t pass this up. That’s Leonid Brezhnev in the upper left, he was the leader in the USSR from 1977-1982, which is the period I’m guessing this skateboard was produced. ( Seller could only add 80’s ) It’s cast aluminum! I LIKE! The text translates to “Rolling.”

Meat does it!

“Vlees doet ‘t ‘m” translates to “Meat Does it.” This the skateboarding version of a series of stickers produced for the Meat Information Office (?) of the Netherlands. This sticker is about 3″ large and part of a large series featuring all manners of other sports. I couldn’t find a date anywhere, but it looks to be late 70’s or early 80’s. Nice astronaut helmet! – Thanks to David Maes for the tip, even if you did send it back in 2018!

Glow in the dark art park. Beautiful and Wasteful.

This is the third glow in the dark park that I’m aware of, and the second one by Korean artist Koo Jeong A. Incredibly, this concrete park appears to be a temporary installation at the Triennale Milano in Italy. What happens to it after the exhibit runs its course from 26th of November 2019 to the 15th of February 2020? It probably ends up in landfill. I love art. I have a degree in art. I love skateboarding too. But, for fucks sake, it’s 2019. Stop building temporary, disposable concrete skateparks! This installation was poured byControl Z, but it’s not their fault. The event is in conjunction with something called the Academy of Skateboarding, which near as I can tell, is a skate school for kids created specifically for this exhibit. It’s tough o tell, there are all sorts of Academies of Skateboarding on the web, but the Italian translation turns up a curiously titled link: “Academy of Skateboarding featuring bastard.” Maybe I’ve got this all wrong, after all, my Italian is… non-existent. If you can fill in some details, please leave them in the comments and I’ll add it to the main post.

The Zen of Elle

This is the cover of Elle Zen from the Spring 2018 issue. I couldn’t find any more photos from the cover session, but the web site had a couple “articles” including one that translates to “3 good reasons to go skateboarding.” From the picture I assumed at least one of them was going to be fashion accessory or dating related… but they’re all very good reasons: To feel good about yourself. To be fit. To have fun. They also have another article titled Mettez-vous au longboard! Although article is actually about surfing, it is inexplicably illustrated with a woman posing on a skateboard.

Skate Boarding Coloring Book

This is the Skate Boarding Coloring Book illustrated by Magnus Fredriksen and published in 2011 by Dokument Press in Sweden. Note that the word “skateboarding” is broken into two words by the publisher. Of the 60 illustrations, a few of them come from recognizable source material. – Thanks to Matthijs for the pics.

A sad skatepark or art installation?

Thanks to Matthijs for this picture of what is either a conceptual art piece or a very sad little skatepark located in Amsterdam. That round planter to right probably sees more acton.

Daft Punk Skateboard

French Furniture designer Hervet-Manufacturier makes some really interesting looking angular furniture the looks like it what people thought the future was going to look like in the 70’s. It’s got a heavy Space 1999 vibe to it. And of course they also make some expensive hardwood retro “artisanal” cruisers. While they were at it, they released a formica laminated, laser engraved, limited edition Daft Punk skateboard that sold for $288. Hervet-Manyfacturier went with a retro mail order catalog inspired promo image, while Daft Punk’s chose a glossy 70’s skatemag style advertisement. [Source: DesignBoom] – Thanks to MC for the tip.
