The first time I went to college I lived in a dive of a house with 14 people called Ten Shitty Guys. The McDonalds monopoly game was new-ish at the time and we pooled our game pieces in the house to try and win. One day we thought we won $1000 or something like that, so we marched down to McDonalds to try and get paid. Turned out that there was another Monopoly based promotion going on somewhere else with game pieces that were almost identical. We won a prize all right, first place jackasses. OK, so there are detractors, like the Dok said in his iTunes review above, but a lot of people are happy about the fact that you can now buy 411VM episodes on iTunes at $1.99 an episode or $11.99 for a season of 8. I don’t know if each iTunes episode is equivalent to an existing 411VM DVD in length, it doesn’t make it clear. I can think of worse ways to spend $12. It beats buying headphones to watch a crappy movie on an airplane. [Source: Playlist]

Streetsurfing has been a huge success in American schools and now pupils in Dorset are among the first in the UK to try it out as part of their PE lessons.

You’re kidding right? A huge success? Hey, I’ve got a Monorail I want to sell you, but maybe that’s more of a Shelbyville idea… More schools that teach skateboarding in PE, as well as this one in the UK that teaches kookboarding.

I just got an email from someone I’ve never met in this wonderful skateboard industry. Getting stuff like this is sorta funny to me because it really doesn’t matter to me. I’ll still go, because I have to scope out the next big name in skateboarding. Like for instance- young David Loy won this event last year in the SCAM THE AM tour- now the kid is featured in the Jeep commercial with the Birdman.

Well with this announcement they are challenging the best english teachers across the good ole USA by doing this:

Someone over at Robot Chicken skates or used to skate. Check out the celebrity voice talent used for the main character. If you can’t figure it out, there’s a blatant clue in the dialog. Also worth noting are the haircuts on the stop action dolls, the mock Dead Kennedys logo on one shirt, and the tail slide to dark slide on the mausoleum. Catch the vid after the jump.

Musique Concrete: Transforming Space, Sound, and the City Through Skateboarding. Hmm. Sounds better than my original post title – Techno Skate Nerd. I’m getting bombarded with emails about Musique Concrete. It’s almost as if some people make a point of reading this site! The emails range from the positive to nominations for Annoying Kid of the Month. Quotes like “My wheels make the sound of a harp!” should be more than enough to get the motion seconded. Here’s the deal: Simon Morris has outfitted a skateboard with sensors that measure the tilting trucks and spinning wheels. Computers automagically turn that information into light and sound. This must be the worlds first midi skateboard. Tip of the hat to Joesf for being the original tipster.

This is what I live for. This Burger King commercial from the 70’s features skaters Dan Murray and Robbie Weir. Here’s a few of the highlights: 360’s with a serving tray! The King is live action this time, no plastic mask like the current commercials feature. He rides what looks like a Duane Peters deck, as well as an early contender for the World’s Largest Skateboard. They either switch stunt doubles or reverse the shot to get frontside airs in both directions. The sound track is… so bitchin! Here’s a quote “… and burgers made just right. Afternoon delight. I’m not sure who has the biggest case of OCDM, the guy who fabricates replicas of Back to the Future movie props or the guy that writes about him on a web site. The movie prop guy has gone out of his way to replicate a crappy Valterra skateboard, but he does have an actual prototype of the hoverboard. Speaking of OCD, the video capture comes from the Converse Chuck Taylor equivalent of this web site, called The ChucksConnection.
