Gordo the Parrot kidnapped. Budgies suspect
I sat on the story of Gordo the skateboarding parrot, but it blew up after he was kidnapped. I think the prime suspect may be the skateboarding budgies we profiled earlier. Now that they’ve got their own blog, they probably don’t want some parrot on a glorified sled stealing their thunder. It’s called Skateboarding Budgies, but you have to scroll through the most recent posts of them rocking out to get to the pictures and videos of the Budgies on Tech Decks.
Really good with the wood-burning set.
Totem Decks has a few spendy but nice-looking laser etched decks. This three-deck piece is by Christian Pearce. Damn, as if $165 wasn’t enough for the deck, shipping is another $35! Must cost more to ship a work of art than to ship a skateboard deck.
Stash wheels
Chalk up another fake skateboard wheel accoutrement. I seem to recall Target had Spitfire wheels that were erasers around back to school time, some years ago. These wheels are for hiding a stash… You can look, but you can’t buy, from BoothSeven.com
Inspired by our Swedish heritage
From a recent Hanna Andersson catalog, offering “quality clothing for kids and families, inspired by our Swedish heritage.”
Skateboard Zombies from Japan
The Skate Zombies series of vinyl toys by Japanese designer Tsuchiya Shobu. They go by the names Bone, Mummy, and Mosquito. They are ten inches tall and come with what looks to be a detachable skateboard. Expect to drop about $80. $80???? The tooling process must be pretty expensive for a small run, otherwise we’d be selling GVK dolls, errr, I mean figures. [Source: Lost at E Minor]
Then and now: Collectable drink cups
That video of Rob Dyrdek eating it pretty hard while dressed up as a Carls Jr mascott has been making the rounds lately. He’s got some promotional drink cups coming out through Carls Jr, who have also made a donation to the Skate Plaza foundation. This is as good an excuse as any to trot out these old 70’s era collectable slurpee skateboard cups from 7-11. [Source: Pitch Engine]
Keep on Smurfin’
Thank god for eBay, otherwise I could have gone my whole life without ever knowing this “Keep on Smurfin'” mini license plate thingy existed. I’m going to hang this on my hog… if I had one. A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.
Chupa Chups Chupacabras
I found these Chupa Chups over on a blog called sa ka woulé which might be French for something I don’t know, but over here in the U.S. we call these things Blow Pops. I’m digging the fact that the skater is dressed up in a suit.
Ropeboarding should be a crime
Hell yeah! Grab your stick, head on out to the tree in your back yard and freakin’ GET SOME!!!!!!!!!!! Ropeboarding is where it’s at man. You don’t need a lift ticket or a skatepark pad nanny telling you what to wear. Here’s the deal. Hang a rope from a tree. Cut a hole in a skateboard and feed the rope through. Tie a knot on the bottom of the rope so you can stand on it. Attach a waterski handle a little bit higher than your head. Swing around on the rope, hold onto the handle and pretend to do early grab airs on your skateboard. Varial city! The best part is where your buddy inevitably catches it on video when the rope or branch breaks. [Source: Instructables]
Parents sue school over dork lessons
Parents in Arizona are suing the Gilbert school system over injuries sustained when he fell off a wave board that was being used as part of a physical education class at his junior high school. Plimpton and Denton allege Mark will have permanent physical and emotional disabilities, disfigurement, humiliation and impairment due to the incident. No word whether other students asked to ride the device will participate in the humiliation part of the lawsuit.
