Uncle Tom’s toys
NO, this isn’t a picture of my closet, It’s actually a photo from Uncle Tom’s Toys. The web site full of nostalgia, a lot of which is for sale. The skateboard section has a lot of old favorites, some of which I have got in my own collection and haven’t gotten to documenting yet, plus a lot of items I hadn’t seen before. Check it out.
Drew Barrymore keepin’ it real
Drew Barrymore was photographed at a skatepark in Culver City, California for the February, 2012 issue of InStyle. Here she is yucking it up with one of the locals. Scans provided by what I have to assume is a 15 year old boy, at least judging by the rest of the pictures I’ve found tagged with Kroqjock. Kellee Patterson: Turn on the lights
The music in Kellee Patterson’s Turn on the lights has nothing to do with skateboarding. It’s pure 70’s disco soul, representative of the genre and when it came out, which was 1977. But checkout that rocket board! I’ve seen plastic six wheelers before, but never in that configuration. Now that I have a few other weird ones collecting dust in my basement I have a new unholy grail to search for. It might be difficult, considering I have no idea what that board is called. I do know approximately where to find that record though. My weekend is getting cluttered. – Thanks to Heath for the tip.
Torpedos for kids
These are damned cool. Probably massively expensive since they are listed as “price on request.” I a full grown man and I want ride on one right now. They evoke everything I remember about the first time I rode a skateboard. What are they made of? A “laminate shell,” which doesn’t really tell us much, but it sure paints up nice. Designed by Anna & Jerry Koza, available in Prague. [Source: Design42day] – Thanks to Boy for the tip.
Friday T&A on S&A: Action Sportsploitation
What’s that you say? Time to class up the joint with gratuitous topless pics of girls “modeling” action sports clothes? Head on over to Vice. The best part (well…) is when they list the clothes that the model is wearing, which is a little comical on the shots that are cropped so close to the boobs that you can’t really see the clothes. Babes on Wheels. Action Sportsploitation. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.
5000 Posts
That last post was the 5000th post. Hooray. Sure the quality may have gone down since I actually have to work while I’m at “work” now, but hey, who loves ya baby? I do! I’ve seen some Tumblr sites with way more, but those are just photos and no text, I could do that all day long. So Hooray! Here’s a link to the first post I made after switching to Wordpress in 2006. Please ignore that first post. I should have deleted it. Maybe start with the second. My thanks to those who have helped over the years, namely Neil, MC, and Grover, as well as the rest of the contributors and frequent tipsters.
Stop Stair-ing
Another set of stairs made from skateboards. This set might actually predate the other set judging by the post date on the original source (which is not responding as I write this.) The steps are located in the Roarockit facility, and made from a custom mold so they are flat on one side. [Source: Treehugger.] – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.
More skate furniture
I’ve seen loads of skate furniture before, some of it practical, some of it not, some elegant and some crude. This miniature picnic table is designed for little kids obviously, and it’s probably the one that is the least forced at of all of them. You can’t actually but the tables either, but you can buy some really nice looking plans on Etsy for $15, which looks ilk it might be more than the cost of raw materials! And as well designed illustration-wise as the plans are, the jig is pretty much up once you look at the pictures. My kids are still just small enough that they might get some use out of this, so I’m thinking about giving it a shot. Although I’m concerned about spillage factor with open cups on an uneven surface. Still, it looks cute. Err, I mean cool. – Thanks to John Aguilar for the tip.
Win an Element Skate Legends iPhone Case
Ha! We’ve got two Element cases from the Skate Legends series to be given away to two randomly chosen comment authors. Up for grabs are one each of the Formula 4 models and the Vapor Comp models. Leave a comment to be entered. Multiple comments won’t stack the odds in your favor and the prizes will be ship directly from the manufacturer, or more likely, their publicity company. I know all you Android users are going to cry foul, but we don’t care, so stuff your sorries in a sack. Also, this contest is open to goofy foot riders only. Contest ends at midnight April 22nd. The images above are just for illustration. I’m sure they’d be willing to let you pick a design.
