Skate and Annoy: Daily

Worse News Bears

Did anybody see the 2005 remake of Bad News Bears? Anybody? Anybody? I wonder if there is any skateboarding in the movie. I believe skateboarding surpassed baseball in youth practitioner #’s some time in the new millennium, so nowadays if you want to be an individual and be a rebel, you gotta join an organized sports team.

That movie was filmed at Skatelab. Does anyone know of other movies filmed at Skatelab? The only other one that crosses my mind is “Brink!”

  • dougdrill

Baseball is completely boring, it shouldn’t be considered a sport, and the players should not be called athletes.

  • Kilwag,

Are there accessible stats (on the skateboarder-to-team-sports ratio) anywhere?

    • A

I’m too lazy to look up, but I’ve read before, it seems like many times. Try the Tony Hawk Foundation.

  • “Step aside or I’ll shave off half of your mustache and shove it up your left nostril.” Truly one of the best movies ever (THE ORIGINAL). RIP Walter Matthau. “The Survivors” is another great Matthou film.

  • If I had kids, I’d keep ’em away from Canadian mall-grabbers too! Lucky for all of us, I’m against making people.

    • we are lucky. we don’t need any more chumps running around raised up to be afraid of how they appear holding their board. you can still be a little league coach

      • A

Yeah, no shit. A mall grab has to be the most efficient way to hold your board. Who gives a flying fug how you hold your skateboard for crying out loud. < a href="https://skateandannoy.com/2010/08/hes-a-mean-one/">Grinch alert!

Isn’t a “mall grab” a term for somebody that never actually rides their board, just carries it around the mall like a prop?

  • dougdrill

I used to totally dig Tatum O’Neil, she was awesome. She got me into tomboy type girls.

Watched the trailer. The Skaters save the day.

    ……Pancho Moler!….

  • We skate all the time.. I have a 2000sq storage space that we have our own spot at so we don’t have to deal with the skatepark. We live in Vancouver, so we have a hostile environment.

I should have said I’m keeping him away from skateboarders.

    • Every once in awhile I remember that vancouver park exists, then I go to battleground.

  • Sorry Carl, but that is a really lame view of skating. Sure the image of skating has changed (in some ways for the worst) but pushing your kid away from skating is doing him a grave disservice. The act of skating has way more positive, character building, aspects than negative. And as a side note: by pushing him away, he’ll want it even more.

    • you know what’s crazy, as a dad when I watch my kids eat shit, I don’t know I guess I end up taking responsibility for their pain. they love to skate and we have a pretty big ramp compound on our property but I brought them into this sport so them getting hurt is kinda my fault, or at least that’s how I look at it. Nothing serious yet, no broken bones or anything but they have had a couple of head slams(wearing helmets) that crush me to the bone. Was skateboarding ever suppose to be a father and son sport?

  • This is really funny, because my wife and I are trying to push the boy away from skateboarding because it’s just so fucking bad now.
