Ryan Sheckler for Panasonic headphones

Sheckler for Panasonic

Aside from electronics, these guys made some bitchin’ 10 speed bikes in the 70’s. It was always a little trippy to see a bike with the Panasonic logo, kind of like seeing a Harley Davidson with an AMF logo, (Bowl and destroy!) or I guess more like when the tire company Bridgestone made bikes. What’s the point? Ryan Sheckler has a signature headphone model with Panasonic. There’s a commercial on the web. I don’t know if it’s being shown on TV or not.

  1. nice pecs on the pecker. PROACTIV!

  2. I’ve seen it on tv… usually plays during DewTour stops (Panasonic is a big sponsor of that tour).

Would you really buy headphones because he does? Really? Ok.

  3. you hear that, music is the key to his performance. more blink 182 or whatever and well all be pro

  4. awesome those are just like the blue headphones we used in french class.

  5. If that kid showed up I would leave.

  6. Wouldn’t you interview him for GVK first?

  7. Panasonic’s version of the “Walkman” that came out circa 1981 was insane. It was called the “Way”, and it was way ahead of its time. It was one of the first personel stereos that had “soft touch” controls and auto-reverse. But its best feature? It was loud as hell. All the tapeheads swore by these machines and the Sony WMII for the sheer volume. Whatever.

PS- don’t buy new headphones w/out checking out Skullcandy’s new version with the “subwoofer”- a mini base amplifier attached midway up the cord-I liked ’em.

was anyone at Tigard or Battleground when Sean White was skating?

  9. Bryce Kanights was. He has a photo from the Tigard session up at his DOS show. But I guess you probably know that. sorry.

  10. Cool Bridgestone link. They made great bicycles, especially their mountain bikes (I’m still happily riding the one I got in ’90). They have something of a cult following now. If you see one used and cheap, buy it.

    1. Mine was stolen. I think I got in in 91.

This commercial is not cool. While part of me is glad that skating has grown the way it has in the last 15 years, it is obvious that has gone the way of the earring and the tattoo. I remember the great George Carlin (may he rest in peace) putting it best: “Earrings were meant to piss off the squares. Now the squares are wearing them. I doesn’t mean anything anymore”. Same thing with ink. My 60 year old boss has a tattoo. Jason Jessee addressed that one best by saying it makes him want to remove all of his.

I ain’t about to stop skating, I do it because I love it. But that underground aspect that attracted me to it long ago is gone. Way gone. And this Sheckler commerical only rubs it in.

  12. kinda big aren’t they…? ok for sitting in an armchair listening to Dark Side Of The Moon or soemthing equally as sonicly worthy, (i’m showimg my age again) but for kicking around a skatepark..? Nahhh…
