Jack and Jill Magazine

The bi-monthly children’s magazine Jack and Jill started in 1938 and is shockingly still in publication. On the left are 2 covers from 1977 and 1978. On the right is the August 2024 issue. A quick search of the the golden year of 1965 turned up no cover appearances in Jack and Jill, and a casual search of other decades so far has shown some examples of rollerblades and roller skates, but so far no other skateboards.

– Thanks to Darren Haugen for the tip.

Fred Flintstone and Friends was a spinoff of the Flintsotnes that first aired in 1977. Here’s Fred watching Yogi Bear on a skateboard.

This April 1978 cover features a dinosaur on a skateboard, and appears to be unrelated to any of the inside content based on the table of contents.

Jacks and. Jill celebrated 85 years of publication with another skateboard cover for the July/August 2024 issue.

It’s hard to find the old issues without a mailing label or bent page obscuring the cover. Here are a few alternates from Ebay and Etsy.

  1. Hey,

Just wanted to drop a quick note that that’s Sky Brown on the July/August 2024 cover. She got Bronze in Women’s Park in Paris; she previously earned Bronze in Japan in 2021.

    Thanks for posting the magazine!
