Ed Benedict skate plaza progress
October 15th, 2008 by conahan
In the two years since Pier Park skatepark’s reopening Portland has built an additional three skateparks and work is proceeding on the Ed Benedict plaza-style skatepark. There’s actually a lot of progress in the last two weeks. It looks good. I heard some kids ask one of the two workers how much longer and he said “a month and a half.” Looks closer than that to me. More images after the turn.
Overview from the northwest.
Fall into the gap.
This would be a cool ramp to ramp gap although maybe it’s going to be an arched bridge… No exposed rebar, gap it is!
Part of Dan Garland’s percent for art commissioned skateable sculpture.
separating the transition skater gulag from the street plaza are some artificial boulders. I’m thinking transfer obstacle.

Those gaps are probably the most stoked I’ve been on street park (plaza?) obstacles in a while.

Ive been dropping by once a week the progress is getting better for sure. I like the layout so far, the gap is pretty sweet, also the star trek bank at the West end has some possibilities. looks Fun.
