Ed Benedict skate plaza progress

Ed Benedict skate plaza progress

In the two years since Pier Park skatepark’s reopening Portland has built an additional three skateparks and work is proceeding on the Ed Benedict plaza-style skatepark. There’s actually a lot of progress in the last two weeks. It looks good. I heard some kids ask one of the two workers how much longer and he said “a month and a half.” Looks closer than that to me. More images after the turn.

This would be a cool ramp to ramp gap although maybe it’s going to be an arched bridge… No exposed rebar, gap it is!

separating the transition skater gulag from the street plaza are some artificial boulders. I’m thinking transfer obstacle.

  • We should do that jump ramp gap somewhere else but with a ring to jump through that could be lit on fire. Dudes would come from all over to film that.

The locals don’t. And I mean the kids who are actually living near there.

We never should have embarked on the plan to build new skateparks in Portland. Should have just left well enough alone. Then everyone would be happy.

    NOSTALGIA

  • I miss the old Pier Park.

  • Hear, hear. Three cheers for the Skaters for Portland Skateparks and all the energy that has went into making our skatepark system a reality. Thanks Tom, Sarah, Mark, Sonny and the throngs of folks that supported the effort.

Miller is also the reason you are getting Ed Benedict in the first place, you ungrateful moron. He and Sonny, and the rest of those 40 year old farts came up with the idea for the parks system and organized to make it happen. If it weren’t for him your options would be Burnside, the old Pier Park, or the street. Next time make sure you know what you are talking about before you put you shoot your mouth off.

I am so excited that the lame fucks I have met in the City are finally building something other then vert for that silly Tom Miller dude.

I met him once, talk about ego, talk about a dick. This looks rad. Finally something for the 96% of us that can ride street and parks not just a Pier Park for old 40 year farts!!!!!!!!

  • moonsovermyhammy..

  • SK8 Devilson

Im sure its been mentioned, when is opening date for Eggs Benedict?

  • I claim this planet in the name of the Earth.

  • Beauty! Thanks for the update!

  • Sick!!!

  • Ive been dropping by once a week the progress is getting better for sure. I like the layout so far, the gap is pretty sweet, also the star trek bank at the West end has some possibilities. looks Fun.

  • No kidding, those are rad!

  • Those gaps are probably the most stoked I’ve been on street park (plaza?) obstacles in a while.
