Galaxy Chaka Zulu

galaxy-chaka-zulu-unretouched

Galaxy Skateboards, has anyone actually seen one of their boards outside of this advert? Here’s a plain scan of the original ad, which is pretty true to how bad it looks in when holding it in your hands. It’s so dark that you can hardly tell what it looks like. They must have been massively bummed out when they got their copies of the magazine. Art by Jim Fitzpatrick. The finish on the Galaxy board is super shiny, maybe this was some sort of composite board. It’s kind of funny that Texas had two majorly subpar board companies (Nash, Galaxy) and one highly respected company in Zorlac.

Here’s a massively adjusted version of the scan. It’s still al little washed out, but there’s only so much you can do with photoshop when the original is so bad.

This is a silly little addition to the photograph that makes the ad seem more like a cereal box than an ad for a skateboard you’d actually want to ride.

Thanks. I thought I recalled there was some sort of alternative construction technology with this company but it’s all a blur decades later…

Do you have the Chaka? Care to send in a picture?

      • Where can I send a pic? Or how can I upload one on here? I also have a couple old Nash decks that must have been made by the same people that made the Galaxy decks they are exactly the same a thin layer of metal on the bottom and the exact same grip om the top. I also think they are a foam core..
