Calgon, take me away
Feeling stressed? Grab your bath salts and some candles, drag you subwoofer into the bathroom and enjoy a soothing bubble bath while watching this latest (actually old) fashion look book from Koch shot at a very lovely skatepark. No more frontside grinds, release your aggression. Let it go… UPDATE: Added some retina-relaxing images.
Targeting consumers
I’ve walked by this on the way into Target at least 20 times I’m sure. I actually like the art direction here, all things considered. It’s pleasing to look at from a distance. Does anyone remember Target Video? They sent us a videotape in the 80’s, some random punk performance, I can’t remember who. I believe their entire catalog was early videotapes of live punk shows in and around San Francisco. They were the ones that recorded the Cramps at a state mental institution. I don’t recall if any money changed hands or not, although I have a vague recollection of actually placing a Target Video advert in an S&A print zine, so maybe they pay us. Target Video still has a blog going, I wonder what they’re up to.
Pick your nose, friends, etc…
Santa Cruz / NHS branded guitar picks sold as sk8 picks by Dunlop Picks, so you know htey are decent quality. I love the green .88mm picks for bass. And yes, I am a very mediocre bass player. Worse actually, since I haven’t picked up a bass in years.
Lowdi
Lowdi has a brief animation with a little bit of a skateboard character in it. I came across it while reading up on some web design trends. What is a Lowdi? A bluetooth battery powered speaker for your phone/iPod. I like the animation and I am digging the messed up bass line in the soundtrack. No this is not sponsor luv. A brief animation? How about an animation featuring the Briefs? I got nothing, except a great idea for a video of the song “killed by Ants” in case you guys come out of retirement and want to, well, you know, make a video for a song you released nine years ago. Think about it. It could put you over the top…
Wahoo Jim
Recent coupons for Wahoo’s Fish Tacos featuring Jim Gray. Wait, that name sounds familiar… didn’t he used to write here or something?
McDonalds stickers from 2000
McDonalds stickers from 2000. I see everyone has on the prerequisite bicycle helmets. You know, before I met Colin Sharp, I had never eaten in an American McDonalds for my entire life. I did eat at one in Warsaw, circa 1993.
Thunder Trucks Wine and Billy Moyle benefit
This bottle of Dylan Rieder/Thunder Trucks wine is part of an auction to benefit skater Billy Moyle who was recently paralyzed from the waste down. Actually, they’re still figuring out how to do it since eBay doesn’t allow alcohol sales. If you’re not into wine the other items range from Jason Adams art prints and Spitfire Wheels ninja stars. Say hello to Fargo.
Give a Hoot
Woodsy Owl was/is the mascot of the US Forest Service. He had his own comic book from 1973-1976. Here he is getting down with some 8 wheeled action in issue #4 from 1973. There are no other skateboard stores inn this issue. [Source: Retrogasm]
Cheetos Spinners
Market research has determined that Europeans, when eating junk food, want to be reminded of extreme!™ sports and the United States of America. And hence, Cheetos Spinners as spotted in Holland, with Chester Cheetah hitting a stair set somewhere in Seattle. Chester has aged well. – Thanks to Matthijs for the photos.
Bite me
An in store promo item for the Bart Simpsons Butterfinger campaign. Sure, it’s old, but Bart Simpson never goes out of style. It’s too bad that show went off the air… Wait? It’s still on? It’s too bad that show is still on the air. I actually haven’t watched it lately. It went through a phase when they clearly should have called it quits, and then it got good again, but I couldn’t get into it again. I’m more of a Bob’s Burgers guy these days. Get some.
