Skate and Annoy: Daily
SOTW 4-4-11:
This week’s Shot of the Week is a photo of Michael “Kalmar” Moschinius taken by Martin Willners in 1981 at Araby-rampen in Växjö, Sweden. A few words from Michael on the shot: The competition in Växjö was part of the “1981 Coca-Cola Cup” which was kind of a swedish championship. It wasn’t a skatepark but a single “Hollywood-ramp” (about 13 foot wide, 13 high and with 10-15 foot of flat in the bottom). It was built for skaters by skaters in a residential area. We had very few sponsors (a local ski-skate-windsurf shop). This was the kind of terrain we had in Sweden these days. No bowls, no pools, no parks, no concrete! We had very few older persons involved at this time and it was almost impossible to find anyone with proper knowledge of the sport who could be judges. Therefore we had to choose tricks from a printed list, write them down and give to judge and then preform them in the exact order during the run. Crazy, but better than nothing! Did you know skateboarding was forbidden in almost all swedish citys during the late ’70s? If the cop came you better run as hell. But it…
Skateboard Mom Cow
Barb Odanaka has a new book out called “A Crazy Day At The Critter Cafe” that features a skateboarding cow in it. She’s been hitting schools and libraries dressed as said cow in promotion of the book. You might think it odd that she’s so gung-ho on the skateboarding cow part, but she’s also the author of Skateboard Mom, a book that was on heavy rotation for the rugrats in the Kilwag house. As far as children’s books go it’s fun and cute. Plus, it’s about skateboarding and it won’t make you cringe.
Wanta Fanta
Fanta has a commercial spot with animated skateboarders in it. I don’t know if they’ve ditched the Fanta girls, but they are channeling pro skateboarders who are channeling punk rockers. I haven’t seen this one on the air yet, anybody else? – Thanks to Seth Levy for the tip.
Lego my failure to come up with a clever title
Sean Kenney spends a lot of time playing with legos, and so do I, but I don’t get paid. He sells aftermarket instructional books for making models, as well as sculptures and portraits. This is a “quick little experiment building 1:20 scale people.” And there you have it. I love legos. Some of Sean’s work has a certain quality to it that transcends the fact that it’s made out of legos. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip
You are dumb
If she was blonde I’d insert some sort of dumb blonde joke but that would be insulting to dumb blondes. This chic is on TV, the new 90210. From US magazine. – Thanks to Mrs Kilwag for the tip.
Sponsor Luv: Shane Bell on Merde
This is old footage for the most part, what with all the Cold War boards and spots that have since been torn down, but hey, it’s rad footage and Shane is a nice guy. Enjoy!
Hopeless Old Men On Skateboards
I got that last idea from Anathem a book by Neal Stephenson.
GVK #67: Spring Joke
Another in the series of spring break videos. I imagine the series will come to an end when my son thinks I am not cool any more. When will this happen? Never coolest Dad ever. My Best written impression of Comic Book Guy. Plus you can see how it stacks up to the first two Spring Brokes… Grover Away
