Skate dogs and studios
Skate Dog Studios makes dog bowl holders out of skateboards. $75 isn’t that bad if you consider these are new boards and not used ones. Still though, it’s just a skateboard, four legs and two holes. And the bowls. Actually, that’s a good deal, except that some things just don’t need to be made out of skateboards. Maybe that’s just me, my kitchen is just too small. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip
Ljubljana spot by Jaka Babnik
Architects enhanced a tunnel on a bike path in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The nightime photos are from Jaka Babnik. Slovenia’s resident senior skate photographer. Currently found on page 14 of his blog, I’ve reposted them here because when I first saw these over a year ago they were on page 2, and there are no permalinks. The photo on the left is from Urban Kravos. Urban says this spot doesn’t get sessioned much: Honestly we don’t ride it much, maybe a few times a year, because you get bored really fast, and the bike track besides the quarter is deadly. Actually the place is under a bridge, and all the bikers really paddle hard, to get back up on the other side. So you never know when you’ll hit someone. But still better than nothing.
Spohn breaks ground in the Dalles, Or
Spohn Ranch has begun building a new skatepark in the Dalles, OR. It’s a small 7,500 square foot street spot type park that will be 100% poured in place concrete. I don’t know how this one got past all the Northwest companies, but you know what they say about spilt milk. Catch some renders of the park after the jump. UPDATE: I forgot to include the renders, but I’ve added them.. – Thanks to VInce Onel for the tip.
Skate and die
Spike TV airs a show called 1000 Ways to Die. Episode #309 aired on December 10th, 2010. It features a supposed former pro skateboarder who met his death when he wiped out and landed face first in wet cement, passed out and suffocated. These deaths are supposed to based on real occurrences, with the names changed to protect the identity of the deceased. I don’t recall hearing anything about a skater dying this way, despite the fact that they Brought in Kristian Svitak as an expert witness. Listen closely, because he never cops to actually knowing the guy in question. My guess is somebody suffocated in concrete but they dramatized it as a skateboarding accident with a tragic figure to make it more interesting. You can watch it on Spike, but that’s an exercise in annoyance due to the fact that you have to watch the commercials (I’m not opposed to that, actually, they got make money) but the episodes aren’t indexed very well, so you end up watching more commercials than necessary. Fortunately, a good samaritan posted a slightly less annoying version. For some reason this video is flipped horizontally. I don’t know, maybe that helps trip up the…
