Skate and Annoy: Daily

Off: Wiped Out.

From Friday’s disco we segue int the soothing sounds of Off! It’s Monday and I want to make sure everyone starts the work week “off” on the right foot. Skateboarding footage included, so its rad and relevant.

Kellee Patterson: Turn on the lights

The music in Kellee Patterson’s Turn on the lights has nothing to do with skateboarding. It’s pure 70’s disco soul, representative of the genre and when it came out, which was 1977. But checkout that rocket board! I’ve seen plastic six wheelers before, but never in that configuration. Now that I have a few other weird ones collecting dust in my basement I have a new unholy grail to search for. It might be difficult, considering I have no idea what that board is called. I do know approximately where to find that record though. My weekend is getting cluttered.

Brooklyn Street Benefit at Plan B Saturday

I don’t know where they dug up this before shot. Like the flyer says, benefit at Plan B, in Portland. (Seriously? MySpace?) Someone ought to throw a benefit for Plan B so they can get a web site. I see Stinkbug on the bill.

Torpedos for kids

These are damned cool. Probably massively expensive since they are listed as “price on request.” I a full grown man and I want ride on one right now. They evoke everything I remember about the first time I rode a skateboard. What are they made of? A “laminate shell,” which doesn’t really tell us much, but it sure paints up nice. Designed by Anna & Jerry Koza, available in Prague.

Friday T&A on S&A: Action Sportsploitation

What’s that you say? Time to class up the joint with gratuitous topless pics of girls “modeling” action sports clothes? Head on over to Vice. The best part (well…) is when they list the clothes that the model is wearing, which is a little comical on the shots that are cropped so close to the boobs that you can’t really see the clothes. Babes on Wheels. Action Sportsploitation.

Convoluted conveyance

A guy made a longboard out of aluminum. He didn’t cast it or machine it, he built it Erector Set style. It looks… Industrial. I hope those are lock nuts. Check it out.

Old, old school

I can appreciate this project a lot, but if they wanted to really go old school they’d stick with steel wheels. I really don’t know squat about Nomad Skateboards except it has nothing to do with American Nomad. In fact, this company is out of Spain. They must be doing well though, or at least they have an extremely competent marketing department. The video and imagery for this limited edition board looks thoroughly professional.

5000 Posts

That last post was the 5000th post. Hooray. Sure the quality may have gone down since I actually have to work while I’m at “work” now, but hey, who loves ya baby? I do! I’ve seen some Tumblr sites with way more, but those are just photos and no text, I could do that all day long. So Hooray! Here’s a link to the first post I made after switching to WordPress in 2006. Please ignore that first post. I should have deleted it. Maybe start with the second.

My thanks to those who have helped over the years, namely Neil, MC, and Grover, as well as the rest of the contributors and frequent tipsters.
