Skate and Annoy: Daily
How do you balance?
I can’t believe we haven’t featured a Bazooka Joe comic before, surely there has got to be other skateboarding Bazooka Joe adventures besides this recent one? Thanks to Kevin Cann for sending this in. It was last year I think, but spring cleaning finally paid off in the Kilwag household.
SOTW 5-7-12: Nick Murphy
This week’s Shot of the Week features the boneless action of Nick Murphy at 3 Piers, Bradenton Beach, FL. The photographer is Nick Nicks from No Comply magazine.
Cinco de Mayo last year
Random Cinco de Mayo footage from last year. Get out and enjoy it responsibly like these young adults in southern Oregon. If you’re in the Seattle area, check out the mondo taco benefit for Marginal Way known as Cinco de Margo.
Mega Miniramp
Rubbing sleep from my eyes… whaaaaaaaa? I can’t find this anywhere except on the Facebook page for the CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, France. If they have any information on it, it’s hidden behind lousy web design and/or my lousy high school knowledge of French, even though the post appears to be in Portuguese. 43 meters. I did get that much. Holy nuts. There’s the ramp, and then there’s the setting. Amazing. Oh wait, I forgot to do my “I don’t now art” joke. Uhm… I don’t know art, but I know what I like to skate. (…crickets…)
Man Wolf
This is old news, but it’s still funny. It’s the Macho Taildrop crew with a video celebrating the Man Wolf éS shoe. The product may be dead but the dub step lives on. – I can’t remember how I found this.
Pull your thumb out of your…
…pocket and play this tiny game of cards. Thumb Deck. – Thanks to Eric for the pic.
Donate to the SOB’s At SOB
They’ve got the rest of the month to raise $17,000 (in addition to the $58,000 already raised) and then the Baltimore City Department of Rec and Parks will match their funds with a donation of 75,000. They also received a Tony Hawk Foundation grant, One thing that might help, add a Paypal button. DONATE, for the love of John Waters.
Better mousetrap department
Just a note to let everyone know that I will no longer feature imaginary magical skateboards that exist only in the minds and hard drives of aspiring industrial designers. There are just too many. Don’t even send them to me unless they actually exist, or are so amazing that they need to be seen (or ridiculed). – Thanks to Boy for the tip.
This month in Smithsonian skateboard news
Ramp It Up: Skateboard Culture in Native America opened in San Diego on April 28th at the Museum of Man. The show runs through September 9, 2012. It’s on tour for two years, maybe coming to a town near you. If not, there are open slots available. Hassle a museum or gallery in your neighborhood to bring it home. The Smithsonian Channel will air a program called Skateboard Nation starting on May 5th: Explore the underground movement that’s helping Native American youth throughout the U.S. soar above life’s challenges, one half-pipe at a time. Skateboarding is increasingly popular on Indian reservations, cultivating athletes, artists, entrepreneurs and mentors. From the streets of Albuquerque to New York City, from Washington, D.C. to Pine Ridge, SD, the sport is fueling a new form of self-expression and pride. – Hey Betsy!
