Oskaloosa, Iowa
Iowa isn’t really on the map yet, as far as skateparks go, but Spohn Ranch aims to change that. Photos from the new Oskaloosa, Iowa skatepark after the jump.
Digging in Spain
The Turf isn’t the only skatepark waiting around to be unearthed. Spain’s first skatepark in… In where? They don’t say! Anyway, they’ve been dogging by hand for over a year and have the freestyle platter and one of the bowls unearthed. The video (Digging) is a about 18 minutes long, and you have to wait about 14 to see some present day skating. I would have liked to see more of the surrounding terrain. It’s like they are keeping it a secret. Confusion says it’s near Barcelona in Arenys de munt. So does S.U.S.C. Digging and bonus vid after the jump. I wonder what’s up with saving the Turf? Implementation of reinforcement
OTRO is a skatepark thinly disguised as art, but hey, I’m not complaining. Whatever you have to call it to get it paid for and built is OK by me. Koo Jeong-A is the artist, the location is… I can’t figure it out, possibly in Brussels. The plans say something about tunnels, but I don’t see them. The construction photos might be the real art. Check it out at L’escaut. Post title comes from the translated caption of one of the rebar photos. – Thanks to Jerome for the tip.
SOTW 4-30-12:
This week’s photo is from Gage Thompson and features an unknown skater at the Wedge skatepark in Scottsdale, AZ. It reminds me a little of one of those where is Waldo poster (or Chin) or 80’s video games with the isometric backgrounds. Zaxxon anyone? The focal point of the skateboarding action is on the stairs, obviously. I looked at this photo several times before I noticed there was a purpose-built skatepark back in the corner. The art looks more fun than the park.
Brandon Park
More pictures of Brandon Park in Hillsborough county, Florida. Photos an striking concrete patterns by Team Pain, but I bet you already knew that…
Rowley Park in Gardena, California
Check out a gaggle of good action shots from the recently finished Rowley Park skatepark in Gardena, California thanks to Spohn Ranch. Video too.
Bird is the word

Apollo Beach
Another new one from Team Pain, this time in Apollo Beach, Florida. Looks like the new stains are becoming a hallmark of this crew. Pics and video after the jump.
How I spent my spring break
Man it seems like it has never not been raining here in Portland. I tagged along on Grover’s spring-break road trip to California with Brad Krohn. I’m more and more of a homebody as I get older. I go on these things hoping to postpone the petrification. It can be challenging traveling with an eight year-old, a big baby and a perpetual teenager but we did eventually see the sun. I didn’t try very hard to document but you can see a few shots and read an old man’s thoughts and impressions of the trip over at Antigravity Press.
Powell Park Skate Spot meeting
Portland Parks and Recreation is out of money. The red tape has been more or less cleared for the rest of Portland’s planned 19 skateparks, but there just isn’t any funding. Somebody in Southeast Portland must be doing some real grass roots work for this meeting to even be on the table. Unless I’m mistaken, Portland communities don’t have to wait for the city. If they can raise money, they can get it built. Powell Park was identified as a location for a skatespot. We are inviting you to hear more about the project timeline and a unique public/private partnership that will allow us to take steps toward implementing our Skatepark System Plan. The open house will provide information on the project, proposed timeline, fundraising goals, and give the community a chance to make their interest, support, ideas, and concerns heard. When: Thursday April 5, from 6-7:30 p.m. Where: Cleveland High School, Library (3400 SE 26th Ave.) Be there or fee free not to complain when it’s finished.
