Burnside Blank Slate

Grover stopped by Burnside earlier today (Tuesday) and got some shots of Jay Meer and another preparing Burnside for it’s 22nd anniversary Halloween debut. I wonder if he’s down there painting via generators now. GPK after the jump. That’s Grover’s Picture Korner.

Powell Street benefit

Powell Street skatepark benefit in Portland. Neighborly forces are mobilizing. Plan B is the venue, Skate rock and skate vids are the plan. Shrunken Heads is the sponsor. Portland’s skatepark system has definitely stalled, gone into hibernation even, but it seems that we’re gearing up for the second great push.

Sedro-Woolley Bully

There’s a new skatepark opening about an hour and some change north of Seattle in a town called Sedro-Woolley. The grand opening is Saturday October 13, 2012. Hey wait, that was two days ago! There’s a facebook page a grainy webcam. Who built this? There’s a Grindline shirt in one of the photos. Lots of construction shots in extended interval time lapse formatfrom Bob Rock. – Thanks to John Aguilar for the (late) tip.

A new skatepark coming together in Kona, Hawaii: We are raising money for the next phase of what will be a close to 30,000 sf. Dreamland skatepark in Kona, Hawaii right next to the ocean. The Dreamland crew were here last month and completed their first phase of what will be atleast 4 phases total as money becomes available. Dreamland in the burbs

I’ve been wondering what’s been going on with Dreamland since I hadn’t heard about them lately. Turns out they’re working on a stealth park in the Portland suburb of Beaverton. I like to call it Beavertron though, but that’s just me, and I’m fairly immature. Carl Warren has some photos. I don’t know where or when in Beaverton this is. (Update: Schiffler Park.) Didn’t even know it was in the works. I’ve got my finger on the pulse. My pulse, because apparently I’m dead.

Now with less Radium, more RAD-ium

Turns out that the Otro skatepark we showed earlier this year is now coated with phosphorescent paint. So now it glows in the dark and possibly gives you cancer if you knee slide without pads… Other sites are reporting that the concrete itself is phosphorescent, but on the architect’s site it mentions the paint. I can’t imagine how much radium it would take to make the concrete glow, so painting seems the obvious choice. OK, Ok, they probably don’t use radium these days, but it makes for a good pun. [Source: Cnet] Thanks to Seth Levy and others for the tip.

Skate Parkour dog

The Evergreen Skateparks crew is cruising on a good looking project in Modiin, Israel that will be the country’s largest skatepark. While researching this post I got totally distracted by their unusual promo footage featuring a rad little dog. The promo footage was already pretty damned cool, and logo montage at the very end is the icing on the concrete cake. Some of those guys on the crew look familiar…
