I found this on the Chase Jarvis blog after getting distracted while researching DIY steadicams. I thought to myself, “That sure looks like the Kent, Washington skatepark,” and I was right. This was a commercial shoot, but for what? At first I thought Chase Jarvis was the annoying dude in the video, but I think it’s the name of a firm. These guys have their web marketing down pat. Kids have beds. Kids need sheets. Kids love Spiderman. Kids love skateboarding. Kids love cheap imported home goods from manufacturers that aren’t concerned with copyright infringement or having an art director with a fully formed idea. Seeing this picture with all the clashing pop culture characters makes me fear for my kid’s psyche.

While I applaud the simulation of the wide angle lens, (The artist is really in touch with skateboarding!) New Juice is out. This one features interviews with Dave Tobin, Ben Krahn, Donovan Rice, Exene Cervenka, Brewce Martin, Chris Strople and Slayer among others.

The secret word is “do.” Season 5, epsiode 9. I’ve owned this for 4 years and I finally got around to watching this episode. I’ve got my kids trained to tell me anytime there’s a skateboard on TV. “Daddy, Daddy! There’s a skateboard on TV!” Usually it’s a Sketchers commercial. There’s another episode in season one where Pee Wee briefly pulls out a plastic skateboard and says something like “Oh! A skateboard! Ha ha!” Of course my kids managed to crack that that DVD. This episode caught me by surprise. I saw Pee Wee back on David Letterman (?) a while back. I hear they are talking about making another movie. Pee Wee’s Playhouse was the shiznit.

Checking in again on Mexican chocolate food packaging. Nestle’s Milo Nuggets as seen in a Long Island bakery that also sells hispanic foods. While trying to find out more about Milo Nuggets I learned that Nestle uses Milo on a hundred different products, from candy bars to cereal. May 15th was free skateboard day at the PGE park. The first 2000 people to enter the Portland Timbers game vs. St Louis got a free Portland Timbers skateboard. I didn’t even find out about it until now. I’m bummed on a few levels. Bummed I didn’t know about it in advance, bummed I didn’t get a skateboard, and bummed I wasn’t the supplier. 2,000 skateboards is an expensive promotion, even if you were to buy them from China. It would take a company like, Oh , I don’t know, Cold War, a good six years to sell that many decks. I didn’t think it was legit, but it is up on the Portland Timbers Facebook page. The top graphic is the tip off that the designer probably didn’t skate. Anybody know what’s going on with the rumor that Portland might get a Major League Soccer team? Remember the episode of the Simpsons where they joked that it made actually made a town less desirable? Interesting cross sport marketing.
