Powell Blvd Skate Spot benefit

Tuesday night at Hopworks there’s a benefit for Powell Park Skate Spot, part of Portland’s 19 park plan. Hopworks is donating 20% of Tuesday night’s profits towards the park. Art for sale benefits the park as well. Donated product will be available for sale that evening after 6pm, with proceeds going to the park fund. In fact, all these proceeds benefit the park directly. There are no further fact finding surveys or “management” costs involved. The red tape has been cut, all that awaits is fundraising so the opening day ribbon can be cut. There’s a conceptual render floating around out there, but I don’t believe anything has been set in stone, other than the fact that Evergreen Skateparks will be building this one.

Venice Beach Surf & Skate Fest Saturday

There’s a small fortune in skateboards and memories in this shot. Looks like it’s more than a swap meet though:

A Golden Egg

It’s a little bit of Gonz, a lot of Simon Woodstock, and a little bit of Sorcery 118. These frame grabs only scrape the surface of what Jesse James and Chris Atherton are up to in terms of weird little Frankenstein skateboards and general… I guess shenanigans is the word I’m looking for. Seriously. These are not the best frame grabs, but there were too many to choose from. Some people find this kind of thing annoying, but I defy you not to smile while you are watching this. It’s a Golden Egg After you watch it, check out a short interveiw and some behind the scenes action on Caught in the Crossfire.

– Thanks to KC for the tip.

Dirt’s Living Room

Here’s a sneak peak of an Elias Parise project documenting DIY action in the Pacific Northwest. From the tone of this clip it seems to be more conversational instead of heavy handed and dramatic, so you can set your docu-phobia aside. Think Fruit of the Vine instead of Dogtown and Z-Boys.

Street Warrior

This month’s counterfeit is a Street Warrior with a top side that bears a strong resemblance to a Per Welinder, courtesy of a French auction site. The bottom side looks like a knock off of a sideways glance at a Nash board, or a 7-Up advert.

– Thanks to David Maes for the tip.

Sports Relics & Industrial Finds

Fab.com has dabbled in skateboards before. I’ve seen Penny boards and I think a couple othre skateboard related items on different occasions. This particular collection is called “Sports Relics & Industrial Finds.” The excellent product description “Advertising Dustpan” was also the name of an obscure release from a post-punk cassette tape only record label. No it wasn’t, but it could have been.

Salem Slide Jam this weekend

So yeah… a little late to be promo-ing this event, but I just found out about it. (Come on JP, help me, help you!) PDX Downhill is hosting this one in Salem OR, at “55th and Eola.” This is a slide jam, not a competition. These are stills from the teaser for last year’s event. Details on Facebook, video after the jump.

Evergreen in Happy Valley

Evergreen Skateparks recently broke ground on a 4500 square foot skatepark in Happy Valley, Oregon. I can’t find a design for this anywhere, and most of the pictures that turn up in a Google Image search are old concepts attributed to Newline that appeared here on S&A back in 2009. Newline still has revised plans on their website. What happened is anyone’s guess, but Oregonians are happy to keep it local.

Drain and skate at your own risk

Drain and skate at your own risk. Why? Because it’s in the middle of Big Cat Habitat, a home for retired circus animals and other unwanted, mostly very large animals.
