Salem Slide Jam this weekend
So yeah… a little late to be promo-ing this event, but I just found out about it. (Come on JP, help me, help you!) PDX Downhill is hosting this one in Salem OR, at “55th and Eola.” This is a slide jam, not a competition. These are stills from the teaser for last year’s event. Details on Facebook, video after the jump.
Evergreen in Happy Valley
Evergreen Skateparks recently broke ground on a 4500 square foot skatepark in Happy Valley, Oregon. I can’t find a design for this anywhere, and most of the pictures that turn up in a Google Image search are old concepts attributed to Newline that appeared here on S&A back in 2009. Newline still has revised plans on their website. What happened is anyone’s guess, but Oregonians are happy to keep it local.
Drain and skate at your own risk
Drain and skate at your own risk. Why? Because it’s in the middle of Big Cat Habitat, a home for retired circus animals and other unwanted, mostly very large animals.
Underexposed in Arizona
Free screening of Underexposed on Saturday 3-30 at 8:00 in Mesa, AZ at Kids That Rip. What is Underexposed?
Bradenton Florida by Team Pain
Bradenton, Florida has a relatively new Team Pain skatepark on the riverwalk. It’s mostly waist high or under, with the exception of a 10ft or so vert wall on one end of the park and a large bowl on the opposite. The park is long and narrow, dissected in the middle by an overhead highway bridge that crosses the river. As with Louisville, KY, it’s more or less across the street from the hospital. I’m not sure if they do that on purpose or not. It’s on a stretch of land that would otherwise most likely be vacant, which means plenty of room for expansion! The non-skating locals I spoke with are very pleased with it, and consider it a destination worth hanging out at just to watch and enjoy the location. More photos and a video skate through after the jump.
Ditch Vice
I was down on Vice magazine for a while, and reasons I can’t quite remember. I’m coming around to it though, maybe it’s because they are hanging out with Dennis Rodman lately, I’m not sure. Here’s one for the warm fuzzy file. It’s a grown up’s take on how his 12 year old self would have approached a local skate spot. Read: I wonder if Natas still skates.
SOTW 3-25-13: Seattle Vert
This weeks Shot of the Week is near and dear to old GVK’s heart. It’s Payton Moriarity wearing the vert mantle and forging ahead for the youth of skateboarding. It brought a tear to Steve’s eye, mostly because he realized he’ll never be that good. Full frame after the jump, bonus shots at Cold War Skateboards. Photos by Marshall “Stack” Reid.
Seller Notes: “dirty, it’s been used in the street…”
It’s just an auction or a single z-roller truck, vintage, yes, but not a big deal. It’s the auction description that is the best part, and it comes from S&A reader “Skater Dave” who is peddling some of his old gear to make up for lost wages due to a skateboard injury. While I have no scans of the x-ray, I do have the auction description preserved for posterity.
The Raging Peasants – Ballad of the headless skateboarder 7“
Sometimes it´s really weird what kinda artists recorded songs about skateboarding or let´s say at least with a connection to skateboarding.
Archeological artifacts from New Zealand
Spotted on Frontside Grind “The home of old school Kiwi skating circa ’73-now!” This item, tentatively titled a Jetskate, is pretty obscure. – Thanks to OJ for the tip.
