Street Dome WTF??? (!!!)
Space Mountain? A dream? No, it’s real. (Pinch me.) This fantastic project is underway right now in Haderslev, Denmark. At first I thought it was just an outdoor skatepark tacked on to some sort of museum, but the dome will house more skateable terrain, ironically bowls, while the actual “street” sections are all outdoors. There appears to be some sort of performance space indoors, and oddly enough, half a basketball court in the middle of it all. That’s not even a first for the the team of Glifberg/lykke. Check out the Lemvig, Denmark skatepark, (the best pictures are actually on the news section of their site, but there’s no direct link, so scroll down.) And yes, it is Rune Glifberg on the design team. The Streetdome project has it’s own web site, but it’s all in Danish so I don’t know how this project came to be, although I thought I caught a whiff of a grant of some sort. What’s the purpose? I mean, besides skateboarding, of course, but who paid for this, and boy, we could sure use an giant indoor/outdoor space like this in our neck of the woods. Grindline is on the scene pouring the concrete,…
Düsseldorf Damage
Skateboarding4Life reports that the long running Peek Skateboards indoor skatepark in Düsseldorf, Germany is on the brink of being shut down because the land lord wants to use the space. It looks like a great space that has seen a lot of use. There is a web site (in German) set up to focus efforts to document and hopefully save the park. Video montage after the jump. – Thanks to Chris Eggers for the tip.
Paris Match
It’s like France central over here… These pictures from Skateparks de Paris are about two years old. Doesn’t look like they update that often… but hey, it looks beautiful. Here in America, we like to hide our skateparks away from any foot traffic, preferably adjacent to an empty baseball field on the outskirts of town. My chapeau is off to whoever approved this.
With a good glass of wine
Although it may look like outtakes from Macho Taildrop, Le Skate Moderne is a short clip about a two of skaters in rural France who live on a farm. There’s not a lot of actual information, instead it seems to concentrate cinematography. I can’t tell if the clothes are costumes or not, it seems a little like an affectation. Also, these guys seem to have a pretty good sized crew for being out in the middle of the country. All in all though, it’s very well made. – Thanks to Bevilacqua for the tip.
Istanbul spot checks
S&A reader Raddam sent some scouting photos of skateable spots in Instanbul, Turkey. He didn’t see a lot of transition there, but he did spot some worthy street spots.
Blockparty in Hamburg
Blockparty was an event held last summer in Hamburg, Germany that featured Blockparty Entertainmen and the Hambrug Crew. They built an odd triangular track that even had a temporary fountain incorporated into it. Live DJ and a party too, plus a great Devo song used in the video. – Thanks to Dennis Stoecker for the tip.
Spot check: Paris
Rue Linois, near the Charles Michel Metro. Looks super fun, especially for found terrain. Even the ramp is banked.- Thanks to Pig-City for the photo.
Translucent, colorless, flavorless
Ahhhh, the extent that Nestle will go to trying to sell you horse hooves and cow muscles. It’s called “Bon Parj Jumble” and this commercial is for the Russian market, or at least was done by a Russian agency. Director Alberto Accettulli must like skateboards, as he also directed a commercial for Nike SB. Who knew Michael Cera (above, left) was on the stunt team? – Thanks to David Leclerc for the tip.
Spanish Bombshells
Skater Girls photographed by Claire Garcia Rosso, whose web site appears to be down, but her Deviant Art profile isn’t. She’s from Zaragoz, Spain, so any chance to sneak in a Clash reference, I’m going to take it. These photos date back to February of 2012, and it’s unclear if they have been published in print or not. Check out the highly functional skate footwear. Must be from the line of new high heels by DC Shoes.
Yugo Mail
It may actually take decades to respond to reader mail, a Jim Gray can attest. I recently found an envelope from the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, mailed to Skate and Annoy sometime in 1988, only to be fully examined in an entirely different millennium. Do I regret not reading this letter from Darko Kolesar, AKA “Gricko” from Zehun, Yogoslavia? Do I lament the lost opportunity to create a cross-cultured, transcontinental friendship, let alone the chance to establish an outpost behind the Iron Curtain? Would I have loved to have a copy of the Yugoslavian skate zine Body & Soul in my collection? Do I wonder what Yugoslavian skate rock sounded like in the 80’s? Do fell like a dick? Yes. UPDATE: A response from Gricko! Thanks to everyone who helped track him down. Read the Darko chronicle appended to the post!
