Vintage skate harassment
Original vintage no skateboarding poster on sale at Antikbar. Published by the British Railways Board in 1978, it will set you back £325.00 or about $560. Pretty cool, but not that’s a steep price. There must be a British Railways Board collector’s scene.
Don’t be such a chicken
You know all those horrible wildlife shirts you see Grover wearing in photos, assorted GVK videos and real life? Most of them come from his mom, as did this beauty.
Astronauts Guide to Life
Chris Hadfield has a new book titled An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth. The astronaut on the cover is on a skateboard, as is the astronaut in the promo video his son made. Good stuff all around. I guess I should have said “The Right Stuff.”

3D Hoverboards
This kickass screen printed poster was designed by Clark Orr, printed by Mama’s Sauce. It’s available online at Gallery 1988. Very nice.
Coastal Cooler
Coastal Cooler from Capri Sun. When I was a kid we used to get these for long road trips with the family. It was like a bottle of champaign to me.
Muppets. In your face, until you’re sick of them.
So this started off as a follow up find to the other picture of Mr. Snuffleupagus on a skateboard, but of course, I couldn’t leave well enough alone. It’s by no means the definitive Muppets skateboarding post, a good place to start for that is the Muppet Wiki. If only I could channel this enthusiasm and energy into my career…
TDK tapes, so real.
This is a TDK advertisement shot at Venice Beach circa 1989. I’ve seen this up on ebay before, actually but this one actually comes from the Google Books, repository, adjacent to the digital knoll. It’s from “Spy” magazine… ha. Remember that one? I’m looking at the shape of that board and thinking that might be Dave Hackett. Anyone got any other ideas?
– Thanks to Sandor for the tip.
Jolly Mambo?
Not exactly a Jolly Mambo, more of an Ollie from Jamba Juice. It’s a pretty weak representation of what passes for a so-called “game” on a web site these days. The Adventure Blender let’s you pick a character, in this case Ollie, and switch out his background, hat shoes and toy. I smell a cease and desist from the Gelfand estate. (He’s doing fine, I know) Only one of these options has a helmet, I also smell another recall.
– Thanks to Kevin for the tip.
Board Pillows
Pillows shaped like skateboards, with skateboard prints on them. OK, sure, why not but what’s confusing is the list of pros with their own pillow boards: Christian Hosoi,Daewon Song, Sean Malto, Chris Cole and Guy Mariano? No slight against their notoriety or achievement levels, I’m more thinking about the age range of the target market. I suppose if they follow the Street League they’d definitely know. Weird second rate graphics too. On the plus side, they’ve got a boy who skates like a man in the promo video.
iMove Downhill Action
I accidentally fired up iMovie over the weekend and was greeted with a welcome screen that featured skateboarding. It’s the first time I’ve launched it after upgrading to Mavericks. Curious that the last version of iMovie was called iMovie 11, and this one is called iMovie 10. Mini mavericks review after the jump.
