Looking er… good?
It’s always a bummer when your rock and roll heroes start to look like your grandmother. That’s none other than J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr fame posing with one of the limited edition Dinosaur Jr skateboards from Alien Workshop at SPOT. The artwork is from their first release as Dinosaur before they had to change their name. It turns out there are also Dinosaur JR wheels. And I thought Naked Raygun skateboards were a niche market. I saw Dinosaur (JR) in a small club in Champaign Illinois circa ’87 or so. Loudest damn show I’ve ever been too. Unfortunately, also one of the most boring. I think I left in the middle. Those darn kids and their rambunctious rock and roll! I think they are back together again with a mostly original lineup. You can see enlargements of the product after the jump. You’re skating all over me. [Source: JMascis.com]
Gunning for Swank
There are lot’s of large skateboards, but only one title holder. Tod Swank has his work cut out for him running all that is Tumyeto without having to worry about people trying to take away his record for the world’s biggest skateboard. First there was that cheater (Update: Not a cheater) in Australia, Now there are a bunch of eggheads at Bay College who are building a 31 foot large skateboard as part of a project in a Computer Aided Design class. A student named Tim Timler (Seriously?) is the project lead. Tim, you suck. Tod didn’t need no stinking computers. The college president who is admittedly not a “balance person” is going to be one of the riders in the documentation attempt. Fantastic! [Source: Daily Press, Escanaba, MI]
Which one is Kent Dahlgren?
There’s something wrong with the Skaters for Public Skateparks site this afternoon. Looks like it has been hijacked by Nosferatu and his evil minions.
Pamela Anderson hangs out skateparks.
Unfortunately, she’s carrying a Razor scooter for her son. Maybe that’s why it didn’t work out with Kid Rock. [Source: In Case You Didn’t Know]
More lasered skateboards
An earlier post showed some laser-created relief on skateboards. Here is a Flickr set of similar work. I think they have one of these rigs out at Nike. I have seen experiments with decorating various items: shoes, cellular phones, laptop computers. I wonder if there have been any attempts to use it to enhance performance. What would be the optimum pattern and amout of material you could cut away and still maintain rigidity and strength? Thanks for the heads up Craig.
I know just how he feels.
A party bag decorated with some sort of anthropomorphous sponge character. They got his back foot in the right place but went ahead and drew him stinkbug.
Pappas – Australian for “Gator”
Ben Pappas – who used to earn $15,000 a month as a teenage skate star in the US – was dragged from the water by police divers off Victoria Pier at Docklands. Homicide detectives had been looking for Pappas, 29, since the body of his former girlfriend, Lynette Phillips, was found at Dights Falls in Abbotsford eight days earlier. Trik Stik
So there’s a stand with a bar that raises and lowers in height and swings away when you hit it. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that although silly, this thing would be useful if you were into that sort of behavior – for contests, errr, training or whatever. Never mind that the name has already been used at least three times before for a toy, some sort of fishing rod, and finally a scooter handle for skateboards. No other information available, except for the commercial after the jump.
I can’t go skate I’m playing a video game.
Came across this while reading a webcomic about videogames. I immediately searched for the game LittleBigPlanet so I could understand what the joke was about. Up came this image on a videogame review website. Not sure whether to be awed at the series of cosmic coincidences that always brings me back to skateboarding or depressed at what a pathetic geek I am. Here’s the link.
Working skater
Seen on the streets of Portland, Oregon. Bucky Lasek I think. Hey if they’re giving money away…
