Chupa Chups Chupacabras
I found these Chupa Chups over on a blog called sa ka woulé which might be French for something I don’t know, but over here in the U.S. we call these things Blow Pops. I’m digging the fact that the skater is dressed up in a suit.
Ropeboarding should be a crime
Hell yeah! Grab your stick, head on out to the tree in your back yard and freakin’ GET SOME!!!!!!!!!!! Ropeboarding is where it’s at man. You don’t need a lift ticket or a skatepark pad nanny telling you what to wear. Here’s the deal. Hang a rope from a tree. Cut a hole in a skateboard and feed the rope through. Tie a knot on the bottom of the rope so you can stand on it. Attach a waterski handle a little bit higher than your head. Swing around on the rope, hold onto the handle and pretend to do early grab airs on your skateboard. Varial city! The best part is where your buddy inevitably catches it on video when the rope or branch breaks. [Source: Instructables]
Parents sue school over dork lessons
Parents in Arizona are suing the Gilbert school system over injuries sustained when he fell off a wave board that was being used as part of a physical education class at his junior high school. Plimpton and Denton allege Mark will have permanent physical and emotional disabilities, disfigurement, humiliation and impairment due to the incident. No word whether other students asked to ride the device will participate in the humiliation part of the lawsuit.
Put a little Squirt in your life
You might think it’s the ad copy from a marital aids catalog, but no, it’s a 1977 slogan from the makers of Squirt soda. This sticker was poached from Jason Liebig’s Flickr stream collection of pop culture. He’s the same guy responsible for putting all the vintage Christmas catalogs online, featured here on SnA. He must have a busy scanner.
Megaramp jump on a Big Wheel
Travis Pastrana has a show coming out on MTV. This looks like it might have been filmed for that. Yes, a mega ramp jump on a Big Wheel, with a back flip thrown in for good measure. Nutty. Watch the jump and a bonus vintage TV commercial for Big Wheels after the jump. Trike and Annoy! – Thanks to Sarib Khalsa for the tip.
Orange you glad I didn’t say banana board?
Mandy and Dandy Dude are the official mascots of the Duda foods Dandy brand of oranges. One one side of this bag of clementine oranges, Dandy Dude is taking green skateboard technologies to another level. Unfortunately, Mandy isn’t skating on the other side. When are we finally going to see parity (not pear-ity?) for female mascots in world of extreme food marketing? A tip of the hat to my wife for picking these up at the grocery store.
Skateboarding puppies
The ASPCA blog has a video of a skateboard being mobbed by a bunch of puppies. Kind of reminds me of the street section at the skatepark. Awwww ♥♥♥!!! Trish McMillan, ASPCA Director of Animal Behavior, took this footage while conducting a training session with the pups. She says she uses it with every new litter of pups they get in. “It gets them used to novelty, skateboard sounds and moving surfaces.” View the clip after the turn.
Superhero girls love skateboards
All-star Batman and Robin #10 caused a stir when it was released in 2005, and it wasn’t because of Batgirls foul stance, rather the foul language in the comic whose transparent black censor blocks left the cursing clearly legible. Which begs the question, if you are going to censor it, why not just have the writers change the words outright instead of going through with the charade? It was only matter of time before the images were uploaded with the censor blocks removed. Iwas going to tell MC about this last night, but it turns out he already covered it. But I’ll bet he doesn’t know about the cover of Supergirl #1 that I found on Zaius Nation. 2025 Update: Two new Supergirl #1 covers added. – Thanks to Adam Shahan for the tip.
Smay’s new model
Our skate buddy Smay, the face of Rebel Skates for so many years, has been working with Knuckleheads clothing and they made a doll that they named after him. Where’s his little skateboard and does the doll have tattoos?
You’ll pay for it
Empty your wallet by turning your old skateboards into wallets at $60 a pop: Send us your deck & we’ll send you a wallet! Gorilla Vinyl’s Sk8 Deck Wallets are made from new & recycled skateboard decks. Each side is individually handcrafted and fitted to the wallets rectangular shape. The decks are planed and edge-sanded to their thinnest point to keep a sleek style, but still retain a strong durability factor. I’d still have to see one of these in person to get a feel for it. Seems like a wallet made out of a skateboard deck would be either too thick to be useful, or too thin to be durable. Check it out on Gorilla Vinyl.
