New park will attract old cliches
The NBC affiliate 9 News in Denver recently aired a piece on the impending opening of the new Arvada skatepark. The emphasis of the spot, apparently shot on the set of Masterpiece Theater (see photo), is on the “construction workers” that built the park, a crew that would go entirely unnamed were it not for an appropriately placed company logo on a hoody. I know these guys are technically construction workers, but it seems like a misnomer. It’s worth watching though, and there’s even a good laugh. What’s the name of their video segment? Why it’s “New park will attract skaters to Arvada.” I dunno… seems a little far fetched. Arvada is a Team Pain skatepark. Team Pain is actually a finalist in a The World of Concrete “Crews that Rock” contest. I don’t know what they get if they win, but if you vote you become eligible to win an iPad 2. What? No beef with Team Pain! I was just making fun of the news coverage. There’s a lot of Team Pain coverage on S&A.
for news people that dont skate, i think they did a great job, and with the helicopter shot mixed in.. very nice.
I rode this park a couple of weeks ago. It is EPIC!
Definitely on the list to hit up next time I’m in Colorado. It is always entertaining to see an outside perspective on skateboarding, and skate culture.
I agree with Colin. I thought this was amazing. This is by far the biggest local station in Colorado, so all this air time is a big deal and the helicopter shots are rad. I love Josh’s quote: “We are probably the smartest people in the world.” And then you can hear audible laughter from the cameraman.

If you knew what our old park looked like, you would understand why the new park will draw skaters to Arvada.
The old park *can* be fun when the sun and stars align on a Thursday around 1:15. But typically it sucks.
