WTF why were they listening to that crap. Burnout skuds. Those were kids 16 and under listening to that crap. Boy did they get mad when I changed that stuff. Then they got up and skated and every time they bailed they had to curse. Weak. Then they had to go sit in the shade and smoke. Burnout skaters.

    1. Well you did switch it to Journey. I was cursing too.

That’s giving the Toads way too much credit (not that I disagree that much with your distinctions). But Chuck Berry, despite all his later silliness, had much more powerful musical sperm on the Stones side of the equation than they did (besides, watch the Gimme Shelter doc… Richards was the ONLY one of the Stones who was not an embarrassingly ernest dork in non-sheep’s clothing). However, I guess you could blame Berry a little for Led Zepplin, if you wanted to say that “my woman left home for a brown-eyed man” (and I just don’t seem to care) was a shout out to his ‘coded’ “Brown-eyed Handsome Man”… but I like to think of it more as their self-admission that Zep made wanky burnout music that could not compete (though that particular song isn’t so bad… so maybe Berry did influence it?). The funniest musical self-loathing one, though, is Iggy trying to totally distance himself from all things Berry, given that the Stooges song “1970” borrows the guitar riff from Berry’s “You Can’t Catch Me” (which was featured in a good skate video about ten years ago… there, touched base!) and, throughout, riffs on the lyrics of that Berry song, including the line “Radio birdman, up above” (the Berry song, after all, is about flying around over New Jersey in his “flight DeVille” with “radio tuned to/ Rock’n’Roll”). But Iggy, in his ‘Kill me if we start sounding like Chuck Berry’ self-denial, has convinced Radio Birdman, the great Aussie band, that their name is nothing but a misheard lyric, even though he clearly sings “Radio birdman”… whereas the Damned, in their cover of “1970”, called “I Feel Alright”, sing “Radio burnin’/Up above”… Which makes shit’s worth in context, and is the real misheard lyric. In fact, it was no surprise that “1970” was a get-me-the-hell-oughta-here(the-60’s) spew, that hewed back toward straight ahead charging, and no surprise that skate videos (or maybe it was the very same video) featured Berry’s “You Can’t Catch Me” and Radio Birdman’s “The Hand of Law”… the version they themselves remixed for punchier sound, which is the only thing that makes their CD compilation worth having if one already has the Witness records CD’s of RB’s albums “Radios Appear” and “Living Eyes”, cuz “Hand of Law” is even better in their remix. In fact, it’s even better than “as seen on TV”: it’s “as heard in a skate video”… as is Berry’s “You Can’t Catch Me”… and I’m not aware of any Stones songs that merit that honor.

  6. There are all kinds of musically genres. One genre does not cancel another genre out, just like one style of skating doesn’t make the other style suck. I think the heat may be getting to your head just a little.

Thass right; one genre isn’t musically genreier than any other.

  7. Is blues like emo?

I’ve always said that. Except Emo is Blues for people without real problems.

  8. Hip Hop will kill a good bowl session.

    1. Now makes the most sense here. I love all kinds genres of music, of course some alot more then others. There are some bands that are undeniably great (outside your favorite genre, which Zep includes), but you just can’t skate to to it.
