Snow palace skatepark?

I don’t think California’s Epic Indoor Park lasted a year. This one is in Marseille, France. It’s huuuuuuuuuge. The halfpipe alone is looks formidable. Check out the Palais de la Glisse on the Constructo blog of skatepark architecture. They have some public official looking types at the ribbon cutting ceremony, this might even be a public skatepark. The building looks beautiful, and not just some dusty old warehouse. Actually, it’s truly confusing now. If you scroll through this set of photos, it appears to be built on the site of a hockey rink. Could this in fact be a temporary installation?

– Thanks to Doc Murdock for the tip.

That sure looks like an “Old Man Army” deck to me!!!

  3. now that’s a skatepark :-0

  4. Nice spot flattop..that’s definately our old style deck.

  5. The park looks really good, but there are some problems.
You have to wait several hours to enter it, you have to leave your bag before entering it, this means you can’t skate AND take pictures for example, etc.

UCPA manages it, and they are known for complete stupidity, for example they manages also the EGP18 in Paris.

    But it’s still a sick place !

@Flattop : It’s Jean Terrisse, an old Marseille ripper, he is in the Old Man Army of course, still fighting for years to make reality a first pool in France.

  6. im down for a trip

  7. UK skaters – does that thing look like Rolling Thunder, or what?

  8. Don’t know if this was obvious, but Constructo is a french (?) skatepark design/construction (?) company and some of their parks are nuts,

What is craziest to me is the Bordeaux park- not because of any big crazy ramps but because of the way it was done. Cement on existing banks, ledges, etc isn’t a new thing, but it looks like- from the cement mixer in broad day light- that the construction was sanctioned before it started. I hope skateparks built on pre-existing structures becomes the wave of the future, whether that is a pool plopped down in an existing plaza or random obstacles sprinkled around at a train station etc, cities officially being made into skateparks.

I just got a roundtrip ticket to Marseille on AirFrance.com for the end of May for $800, which is a good price because it usually costs over a grand. Good bye tax return Bonjour Palais de la Glisse.
