Sergi Ventura’s Pier Park fetish?

Check out this out of print Sergie Ventura model on Hosoi Skates. I want to say that looks like Pier Park on the bottom of the deck. That’s Sergi at Pier Park during the 2007 Trifecta. Although a crowd favorite, rumor has it (overheard) some of the competitors felt it was was a “jock park” (AKA too burly, required pads) and that’s why it wasn’t on the repeat list for 2008.

-Thanks to Greg North for the tip.

Here’s the largest pic I could find of the deck. It looks like Pier Park. Then again it could be one of many (?) different full pipes attached to a right handed square bowl with big trees in the background.

My shots of Sergi at Pier are all from reverse angles, but there are some others from the same vantage with different skaters. I did find one shot of Sergi that’s pretty close to exactly what’s on the bottom of that deck. I wasn’t sure if it was Pier Park on the deck until I noticed the big lights from the adjacent baseball field in this photo by SnowBrooke on FuelTv.

So case closed. Sergi Ventura loves Pier Park. It looked like he was enjoying the hell out of it when he was riding it. I wish I had known this was out there, because I’d kind of like to have one of these. Can’t find them anymore. They aren’t listed on the Hosoi web site. If only I could get him to autograph it and take a picture of him holding it while standing in front of the spot where the shot was taken.

I heard it referred as “what Jesus skates”.

  2. That’s Sergi at Pier Park during the 2007 Trifecta without a doubt.

you can even see the little blotch of white that is the mouse hole

  4. Duh, mousehole.

  5. I’ve seen Jesus at Pier a couple of times, usually after a hard fall in the big bowl. He kills that place.

  6. Mike has them at Socalskateparks.com

  7. Right. That’s actually where I found the big picture. I forgot where I found it, so now I’ve added the link. I can’t figure out if these are new or old.

I agree, 3 or 4 different and separate backyard style pools. the coping and tile work looked really great.

  9. Tile is a nice detail. I really wish we had tile at Glenhaven that would be so cool.

  10. Here’s an observation. Anyone want to take bets that one of the influencing factors for using that graphic on Sergi’s board is the cross-like lights behind the pipe. Maybe Pier’s nickname could be Golgotha?

  11. how do I get one of thease?need to buy it

  12. It’s time for the B.F.P. series. Big F’ing Pipe series: Louisville, Pier, Pipeline, San Jose….

  13. I don’t even think of that park when it comes to spots to skate . I’d rather find a slappy curb , bank to ledge , or Canby .

  14. I liked the board so much I bought 2 more before they go & change it. It’s 8.25 w/15″ wheel base and it rocks. Concrete Vert Jock Series 2009!
