This post was originally static HTML. It has been backdated and inserted in the blog because it was too small to pretend it was an actual feature. And yes, this does hurt my OCD! Can you believe I used to have to hand code this? I integrated the blog into this site in July of 2006.
Editor’s note: Still coming in at the staggering pace of one scene report every other month! I don’t care if it’s a scene report on your backyard ramp, send it in! -K.ed
Albuquerque New Mexico
Albuquerque, New Mexico is a unique place. Home to some of the oldest European and Native American settlements and dwellings in the U.S., this high desert town is rich with history and culture. Albuqueruque is also rich with another kind of culture and history: skateboarding. Ditches line Albuquerque like veins bringing rainfall and mountain runoff safely through the city. However usefull these ditches are to the city and it‚s residents, they are heavenly, irresistible rides to skateboarders from all over. Kinked, wave-like, short, long, rough, smooth, parking blocks, no parking blocks, long board, short board. Make your choice, it‚s all here. Skaters in Albuquerque put time and effort into turning some of these ditches into one of a kind skate parks. Beware, it is illegal to skate in ditches. Ditches are deadly.

The streets of Albuquerque provide a variety of skate spots. There are banks, stairs, ledges, parking garages and handrails throughout the city.

Legal skate spots do exist in Albuquerque. Los Altos skate park, built by Site Design Group in 2000 is a fun place to hit big bowls, banks and ledges (and lots of bikers getting pumped in the ass by their seats). It is a total zoo on the weekends unless you go early. Go at the right time and you could have a good warm-up session before hitting up a ditch.

Calvary Chapel also has a concrete park built by Site Design. Calvary is much smaller than Los Altos, but it is smooth and does not allow bikes. The coping is tiny and speakers surround the park blasting Christian “rock” into the ears of young, gullable kids. If you skate at Calvary, bring your MP3 player.

Scary Skatewave has hit the Albuquerque area with parks in Rio Rancho and Tijeras. Also, Santa Fe, Taos and Las Cruces, New Mexico are worth hitting up as long as you are on your way to somewhere like Trinidad, Denver or Phoenix.
