Hood river additions

Hood River is a mini Lincoln City?

I mean really… at least as far as different types of terrain goes. Hood River is definitely becoming Lincoln City East. My hat’s off to whoever is running the show over there. Good job. Mike Estes sent in eight shots of the new snake run-ish feature that looks like it wraps around hte back side of the park. There’s a shot from Carl Warren too. Actually, Carl also has a ton of earlier construction shots up as well. Hood River is a good place to be a skater.

it’s rad they are getting new concrete, but who is doing the work? from the shadows, in some of the pictures, the finish job looks wavy.

  2. Dang, I just wanted to be able to get to the bathroom.

  3. Love what those guys have going on out there. Anyone know where the vert ramp ended up? I really wanted to have one last sesh on that thing…

  4. Probably done by the same guys that did the 5 foot bowl. I remember them telling me about the plans the last time i was there.

  5. Never mind, I just read on EPM that Steve Grover has put in a bid for it… So how does one attempt to become his friend without looking like it is to skate his vert ramp?

Buy white scooter from 80s, wear your halloween costumes on any given day except halloween and you are in the Grover club. Almost…

  7. WINNER: Marek!

  10. Hey Danimal – Do you know what info and what bowl ‘colin wash rules’ is SCREAMING about? It would be good to hear about the details minus the all caps and ranting.

im going disc golfing. yay for me.

  13. Sorry if we missed posting about your fundraiser. Really, it was an oversight. It had nothing to do with all the abuse we took from your internet troll person, see we’re thick-skinned from all the years of neglect of our volunteer efforts and subsequent criticism because of our preferred skating terrain. Definitely send future details though, we’ll do what we can to help promote.

  14. Colin Walsh – don’t be such a tool. Ever hear the expression “You’ll catch more flies with sugar than vinegar?” I haven’t gotten to it yet, I’ve got a realy bad case of strep throat. Frankly, recovering is more important to me. I hope the rest of the Corvallis locals aren’t as bone headed as you. Waaah!! you didn’t drop everything and do exactly what I wanted!

  15. the bowl fundraiser jam was on oct. 4th, the bcsa gave away a bunch of stuff, i walked away with a board so i’m stoked, i dont know how much $$ they raised. the bcsa guys are trying to get money to add a bowl to the park, the city is the biggest obstacle to getting it done at this point. the jam was fun by the way, and something good to skate in corvalley is much needed so i’m stoked these dudes are doing it. colin should wear a shirt saying “colin walsh rules” cuz i still dont know who the hell he is.

  16. I think he’s going on the assumption that if you really want to catch flies, use shit.

  17. nweyesk8 on October 14, 2008 - Reply

i got two shirts and a hat at the jam, i passed the hat along to a young kid who was watching. I also donated money to the large collection jug they had at their both set-up. The skating was fun, and the BCSA avoided paying the cities ridiculous 1500$ permit fee for a contest, by simply having a relatively informal jam session, with different obstacles in the park being the focus of the jam at different times. I think the free stuff given away was all donated by Peak sports and a free food was grilled up for anybody who wanted it. I think more contests should go down in this manner.

how did the hood river crete? cool design. looks doo-able for a back yard or a forest

I’m pretty sure that it is “you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.”

  24. You’re right. I caught that after I posted it. I was going to change it but I figured the subtlety would be lost on a guy who called us “PIER PARK FAGS.” Now I’ve spent more time writing about it than it would have taken to change it. Hooray!

  25. Haw! We need to start referring to Pier Park sessions as having gay sex!

  26. Corvallis should tear down their bridge park and build a destination park in the same place that would be worth driving to and skateboarding. Its a shame they didnt do that in the first place, the city geeked it on that one. Start fixing that 1 part at a time even.. mah////……..

The final addition to hood river a mini Lincoln City your joking right!! The new stuff looks fun if your 3yrs old and 2 ft high. maby that would put it in prespective to Lincoln City. To bad Dreamland didnt get to build the final $90,000 addition, funny how the project didn’t go to bid like most cities are required to do?? Maby it will be worth driving to also but I dont think the addition will be the icing on the cake it should be for the sf and variety they allready have there, The hump and the curb look ok though, I guess we will see how good it turns out when it is finished. I might not be an expert with trowel (although I am a skatepark Connoisseur) but, In the photos the finish looks shoddy in some areas, for sure.

Some of my benefits & info I have shared have not gotten on to the site either, but you can always post on the many other oregon skateboard websites too. Maby next time just post it in a comment on a blog like you did after the fact, instead of name calling and crying about it later, think about it, that would get the word out just as good. Pier Park stomps on Corvalis, son. And their legal art wall there is gone too, plus the other skateshop there closed down, lot of underachieving going on down there. the bowl is the first reason I heard to even mention the Ctown in a long time.. Now if you were talking about the old ramps there 16 years ago or so that might be worth talking about ..Hopefully you get a good bowl though, good luck.

There is my monthy update.. You know this is my contribution.. Maby I just need my own monthly rant blog section on here instead of.. well side busting on blogs is just as good maby better?! What are you waiting for, let the haters mmmm, start hating!!

I ll throw some flics from my midwest skatepark tour to the site soon.. One thing is for sure parks and bowls are pretty big in Texas! No Joke. Grindline has a lot of parks down there too..

  27. There’s no need to tear down an existing park just to build another. I think Corvallis would be better served by building another park and leaving the existing park there. Or if anything, adding onto it. More skateable terrain, not less!

Come on, Hood River is obviously not on the same epic size, but it’s similar in that they’ve got a lot of varied and interconnected terrain, and that it appears to be an ongoing process. I’m pretty sure the latest isn’t the last. As for the finish, I can’t attest yet, but there’s a lot going on in those pics, water, reflections, who knows. They seemed to do a good job on the last bowl they did.

when Corvallis was in the planning stages an LC one was being built, several of us old Avery Vert skaters talked with Dan Eden, then head of city parks and rec. He told us flat out, that the city wasn’t going to hire our friends, Red and original dreamland crew that did LC, Aumsville and Newberg, that they were going to hire real Professionals to build the park. He is eating those words right now I think. We were also told that the city wasn’t building a park for us, it was for the ‘communities kids’. Being young adults at the time, 21-24 years old, he told us our opinion didn’t matter they were building a park designed by the local kids who would be using it.

“that they were going to hire real Professionals to build the park” YEAH AND THE CONCRETE WORK REFLECTS THAT..NOT. OH I MEAN THE BOWL REFLECTS ALL THE SHITTY CRETE WORK IN THE “BIG” BOWL. wierd how the smallest “sperm” bowl is the smoothest.. is only the sperm bowl was 10 feet high…oh the possibilities….. crap shit fuck.

well, we just shook our heads in dismay and foresaw the exact situation we have now. The ‘kids’ keep growing up and then they go somewhere else to skate, either out of town or back to the streets.

  31. just be glad you don’t live in salem were our parks suck. i wish we had a park like Corvallis. dare to dream of hood river.
