Outlaw race footage
Sure, we watch Nascar and downhill skateboard races for the same reason: The crashes. Here’s a video from a recent outlaw downhill event in Oregon. I guess they didn’t actually make it to the finals bracket because the event got shot down by the Sherif’s department, but they were able to determine the final standings to everyone’s approval. Looks like these guys are hauling ass. There’s some unexplained miniramp complex footage at the very end, and yes, you can watch guys pile into each other on the same turn, over and over again. – Thanks to Casey Morrow and our own Enemy Combatant(!) for the tip.
From Casey:
I don’t know if you guys have seen any downhill races before but I had one last Sunday on this road McNamee north of Portland. 10% grade average with a few really sharp corners and one REALLY sharp corner at the bottom of a 40mph+ straightaway. Needless to say it was hilarious watching everyone try and figure out how to make it through that one. I somehow convinced a bunch of guys to throw themselves down it in a 4-at-a-time, top 2 advance, race format. We got the boot from the Sheriff right before finals, but came back later to sort out who was winning the money. Amazingly there were no serious crashes, a couple people rattled their brains a little, but nothing you would have expected from the harsh terrain. Laugh it up!
the mini ramp footage at the end shows a glimmer of hope that longboarders/downhillers realize what real skateboarding actually is…
Those top Portland downhill racers (who often post on here) already are pretty good all around skaters:

Prolly better than you.
Any skateboarding you AREN’T doing is denying yourself of real skateboarding. Don’t restrict yourself, there are more ways to have fun on a slab of maple on 4 wheels than anyone could ever master!
i’d like to see wiseguy bomb a hill.
You should give it a try wiseguy, you might find that downhill and longboarding can help your pool and park skating more then you think. It did for me.
That “willy the squid” is pretty darn good. He scares me with them bones on his leathers.I’d like to see these guys in a skatepark slalom…I’ll smokem. YO tengo grande PROPINAS>>>>>>>>
Well in fact some of us Portland skaters went up to Canada a few weeks back for a DH race and entered in the Bowl Smoker(skatepark race in Kimberly, BC) and that squid Billy tore it up with first place, Casey 2nd, and I third. And I really doubt you’d smoke any of us.
Hell yeah, park slaloms are the best! Billy and I tied for fastest time at a park slalom in BC (he won in overtime), JP (who raced in the video above) got 2nd at the Aumsville park slalom last year. 😀
Yeah Robin and Huey too, Portland sweep! And Skip got 3rd in the 40-49 age group at West Linn, though he’s more into slalom that bombin. Are there going to be any park slaloms this year? I haven’t heard anything yet and I’ve love to do those again!
Yeah, 2nd place in Aumsville next to a thirteen year old kid from Newberg. You guys can be smoked in the parks, eaten up like little pieces of shark bate and pissed out like kidney stones.

You aren’t in touch with the local skate community if you don’t know how hard Brogan and Adam rip. How’d you do at those park slaloms Propinas?
Park slalom seems like it would be fun. A little silly, no doubt, but fun none the less. If you can’t have some fun skateboarding then what’s the point?
Hey Propinas – a 12 year old finished 3rd in last year’s Trifecta event held at Tobin’s Bowl.
