Jughead V2 #34: I Was a Teenage Jughead and Lessons in Skateboarding

Day 7 (!) of 7 Days of Jughead! I made it! This is volume 2, issue #34 of Jughead published in June of 1992. It has a couple of stories with skateboarding, I Was a Teenage Jughead and Lessons in Skateboarding. Even Jughead himself asks, is this a joke?

First up is I Was a Teenage Jughead in which Jughead gets knocked unconscious by a falling box of comic books and goes through a Wizard of Oz experience with the gang taking on various implied comic book characters. Archie channels Spiderman as “Bug Boy,” Sassy Thrasher is the “Silver Thrasher” as a copy of The Silver Surfer, and Moose is the Buldge/Hulk. After the adventure is over, Jughead wakes up at Riverdale High where Archie is conspicuously hangin out with a skateboard.

Midway through he story there is an advert for Capri Sun, and if you squint hard enough you can make out a skateboarder on one of the juice pouches on the box.

Next up is the Ethyl story Trust Me. There’s only one panel with skateboarding in it, an dit has nothing to do with the story.

Finally, the story Lessons In Skateboarding features… Skateboarding! Jughead teaches Archie how to skateboard in a ski sweater with ski poles. Poor Archie has been trying nato learn how to skateboard since 1965.
