PHOTOS NEEDED! I can’t find any pictures of this peanut shaped skateboard made by Nash anywhere, except for this scan of a JCPenney catalog from 1987. The only reason I can tell it’s made by Nash is the product listing says it has XR-2 trucks. Image searches return a thousand Peanuts™ boards, and “Peanut shaped skateboard” gives you Nutter Butter and Rollo skateboard cookies.

This isn’t a clickbait article, it’s a Roller Derby sales brochure from 1964. I found a pdf on my hard drive dating back to 2010, and the meta data revealed it might hav come from someone named Benjamin Marcus, so I’ve sent an email asking for more info. The scans show hole punches for placing the pages in a binder. Unfortunately, it looks like some of the pages were cut at some point to fit in the binder. The middle section contents sometimes gets cropped.

Pep #348 was published in April of 1979 by the Archie Comics Group. It’s got a six page skateboard-centric story called “Board With It All.” (Get it? GET IT???) and an ad for the Sales Leadership Club in which you can earn an Action-tail skateboard. Reggie takes on Frankie Valdez, the “champ’s champ.”

You know we’re big fans of novelty skateboard products here at Skate and Annoy, especially if it involves good packaging. NHS recently released Dirt Tires under the oJ’s brand, and these certainly fit the bill at 70mm and novelty treads on the running surface. They’re designed for “on and off-road shenanigans” and have “engraved treads for extra traction in wet and dry conditions.” Extra traction? Sure. Maybe. Doubtful. Fun? Yes! S&A reader Alec Brown recalled a similar version and tracked down “Stomper Treads” that appear to be identical except for the Road Rider brand name, another NHS brand. Stomper Treads were released circa 2011.

In alternate universe, Thrasher is a big enough corporation to be a front of the jersey sponsor. In this universe it’s an Adidas collab. The World Cup is over. Last time around I rooted for Argentina in the finals because the Netherlands had a team full of pricks. This time around, the pricks were playing for Argentina. I passed on posting this Argentinian-themed Thrasher soccer kit until NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes showed up wearing it on TV in one of the World Cup matches held in Kansas City. Skate and Annoy: The number one crossover site for skateboarding and soccer, and MLS, for better or worse.

The Gliderboard from Axtion Systems is both improved and lower priced, which means we somehow missed the first coming of this crazy tuck. It’s pretty much the same thing as a Z-roller truck with the addition of the grinding groove, as made famous by Gullwing. But hey, what about those funnel shaped wheels? The glider board is engineered(?) to keep you locked onto the coping, but not grinding it.

The July/August issue of Osider Magazine has a nice eight page feature on the history and legacy of skateboarding in Oceanside California. The cover features a 1985 photo of Mark Gonzales from the vaults of J. Grant Britain. Osider is one of those local lifestyle mags funded by ads from local business. It’s a fluff piece typical of these types of publications, but the photos are good and there’s even a Steve Rocco sighting. You can read the entire issue online.

I added the first 4 issues of Bodyslam to the zine gallery, which makes the collection complete. These issues are from retouched scans of the original pasteups used to photocopy the zine. Issue 3 was a crazy one. It had a screen printed cover and some color copies mixed in with the black and white pages. Bodyslam was (and is) mad by friend and former contributor to Skate and Annoy Mark Conahan, who probably would have thought I was soft had we met back then. Mark offers a perfect-bound compendium of reformatted Bodyslam reprints, or you can download high quality scans of the original here.

From Lego Ideas, a site where talented builders submit their own models and the community votes, with some models becoming actual Lego products. This is Mini Modular City, which includes a small skatepark as one of the interchangeable sections. Because of the scale, this project uses the less prevalent Microfigures, which don’t have the huge library of available accessories. The figure don’t actually ave skateboards, just the suggestion of them. There was a Back to the Future set from Lego’s previous community voting platform that actually made it into production, and they ended up making a couple more. Unfortunately, this set did not get produced.

I’m not sure where this came from. The date on the cartoon says 2006, but the scan was created in 2019. I think my mother-in-law sent this to me, as in physically mailed it to me. I’m not sure why it says “Big Bear Grizzly” under the catption. Usually a cartoonist will have some sort of online presence through syndication or otherwise, but I can’t find one for Dale Neseman. I found an archive of some comics that seems to have stopped in 2016. He is on Facebook however. Looks like he’s switched to watercolors.
