Beaverton

Vert Sucks.

No, it doesn’t. But try telling that to the kids at Beaverton Oregon’s skate park. These ramps were originally garbage picked, well donated by the X-Games. If you wanted to ride the vert ramp it usually meant you had to kick the kids off the flat bottom. These pics are from such a session, circa 2001. When the bottom rotted out of the vert ramp, local officials decided to replace it with more street obstacles made of concrete, even, I hear. Does anyone want to send in some pics of the new street developments? That would be great, mmm-kay? More after the jump.

One of these guys might be famous, I don’t know. There a few pics of the vert ramp rescue efforts as well. Click these pics to see larger versions.

Yep, that’s jpeg corruption. Awesome. I don’t know where the original print is. Back up your data kids!

So MC organized a rescue effort to remove the pieces and cart them over to a hay baron’s field for eventual reconstructive surgery. The parks board was kind of difficult about the whole thing, not making it especially easy considering we were doing them a favor.

The water damage was pretty bad. The whole project was annoying, especially for those that helped on multiple days.

Taking time out to skate on a pile of rubble that was the flat bottom.

All the pieces were hauled out to a field in rural Oregon, where they sit rotting in the rain to this day. I’m sure MC is not Larry’s wife’s favorite person these days.
